Volleyball Edges Benedictine College In Four Sets; To Take The 2-0 Season Series Sweep

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University volleyball team picked up its second straight win and stays undefeated inside Anderson Arena, as the team defeated Benedictine College in four (25-15, 25-13, 23-25, 25-20) on Tuesday night.

The Owls (19-10; 8-1 AMC),  take the 2-0 season series sweep over Benedictine College(9-16; 0-8 HAAC), as the team collected 51 kills and ended the night with an attack percentage of .248.

In the first set, the Owls jumped out to an early 7-2 lead, after getting a kill from Emily Becker, forcing the Ravens to use their first timeout. WWU would extend its advantage up to 18-13, after freshman Mary Cleek picked up back-to-back service aces.

WWU would then go on to take the first set 25-15, as Becker earned a kill, followed by an attack error from BC, which would end it in the Owls favor.

William Woods totaled 13 kills and an attack percentage of .321, while only allowing the Ravens to collect five kills in the first set.

With Similar events in the second set, the Owls found themselves with a commanding 16-6 lead, after two consecutive kills from Becker and Lauren Rodewald.

The Owls would not give the Ravens any glimpse of hope, as the team went on to take the 2-0 match advantage with a 25-13 set two win, capped off with a Rodewald kill.

WWU, statistically had their best set in the second, recording a game-high 15 kills and an attack percentage of .433, while limiting BC to just four kills the entire set.

Benedictine would respond in the third set, taking an early 11-8 lead over the Owls. But WWU would keep its composure and cut the Ravens lead down to one (14-15), after a Davis kill.

The set went back-and-forth until the very end, as the Owls would tie the game up at 23-23 from the help of a Becker's kill. However, that would be as close at WWU would get, as BC stayed alive with the 25-23 third set win.

In the fourth set, just like the third was a tight game all the way up to the end, as there were 12 different occasions the score was knotted up between the two teams.

They would battle until the score was tied at 10-10 and then the Owls would gain some breathing room and push its lead out to five, 18-13, after a Davis kill. WWU would put away the Ravens down the stretch of the set, as the team went on to secure the set and match 25-20 victory.
