FULTON, Mo, - After collecting its 20
th win on the season, the William Woods University volleyball team looks to continue to surge and capture its fourth straight win against non-conference foe Lawrence Tech. University, Friday night. The first serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
The Owls (20-10; 9-1), are coming off a three set sweep over Stephens College (25-21, 25-18, 25-20) Wednesday night, a game which pushed the team up to second seed in the AMC standings.
WWU totaled 38 kills and earned an attack percentage of ..260 against the Stars.
Emily Becker, for the second straight game, led the Owls offensively with 12 kills, while only committing one error, ending the night with an attack percentage of .440.
Stephanie Davis also had a strong display adding eight kills, while
Lauren Rodewald and
Brittney Engelbrecht chipped in seven and six kills, respectively.
Engelbrecht, also led the team with 30 assists and gathered nine digs, while Becker and
Shelby Hinshaw each tallied eight digs in the win.
William Woods will step outside its AMC schedule this weekend, as the team will square off for the first time in the program's history with Lawrence Tech. University on Friday night before turning around and hosting a tri-match on Saturday. Lawrence Tech. and along with Evangel University will be apart of the three game tri-match on Saturday inside Anderson Arena.
The Owls are 11-9 this season against non-conference competition, as the team recently defeated Benedictine College earlier this week in four sets. WWU has collected 962 kills, with an attack percentage of .203 in their 11 non-conference wins.
Becker paces the Owls, posting 247 kills in 73 sets, while Davis has recorded 175 and Rodewald has added 155. Engelbrecht still sits a top of the team in assists, handing out 761 of her 1,069, while Hinshaw has gathered a team-high 289 digs.
Lawrence Tech. University enters this weekend with a 8-21 overall record and an 5-11 record in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference. The Blue Devils are coming off a 3-0 sweep in straight sets against Michigan-Dearborn earlier this week, that saw its three game skid snapped.
Mary Armstrong will be an offensive target the Owls will have to keep an eye on, as the senior MH has complied a team-high 447 kills, which leads the WHAC and ranks her third in the nation, while also averaging 3.9 kills per set on the year.
Josie Queary has taken on the setting responsibilities for LTU and has handed out 838 assists, with only committing 23 errors on the year, while defensively, Lexi Szymoniak and Brittany Schmidt have totaled a combined 471 digs from the back row.
