CONWAY, Ark. – The William Woods University volleyball team picked up its second consecutive win on the weekend, as the team defeated Williams Baptist College in five sets (25-21, 25-20, 24-26, 18-25, 15-12).
The Owls (13-9; 3-0 AMC), remain undefeated in the American Midwest Conference standings, moving up to a two-way tie with Park University for third place, after its AMC victory on Saturday afternoon over the Eagles.
WWU jumped out an early lead in the match, as the team captured the first two sets, (25-21 and 25-20), respectively, putting them one set away from sweeping WBC in three. However, the Eagles battled back to take set three and four from the Owls, forcing a fifth set, which ended in a 15-12 decision in favor of WWU.
William Woods closed the day, amassing 62 kills and an attack percentage of .272 as a team, while three players ended in double figures in the kill category.
Emily Becker guided the Owls with her double-double performance of 15 kills and 12 digs, as
Lauren Rodewald chipped in 13 kills and
Stephanie Davis added 11.
The AMC Setter of the Week,
Brittney Engelbrecht also collected yet another double-double, handing out a game-high 45 assists with an impressive 13 digs while freshman
Melanie Kala held down the back row with a team-high 21 digs.
The Owls next game in October 6th, taking on Lindenwood-Belleville University at 7:00 p.m. before returning to Anderson Arena from its road trip to host Harris-Stowe State University on Wednesday October 7
th at 7:00 p.m.
