BELLEVILLE, Ill. - The William Woods University volleyball team will start its loaded week of competition with an American Midwest Conference (AMC) match-up against Lindenwood University-Belleville on Tuesday night. The first set is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
The Owls (13-9; 3-0 AMC) , are coming off a weekend that saw the team capture two AMC victories, to keep them perfect in their AMC part of its schedule. Last Friday, the team swept Lyon College in three straight sets before battling Williams Baptist College in five on Saturday.
Lauren Rodewald lead the Owls on the weekend, collecting 24 kills, while Brittney Engrelbrecht handed out 81 assists and
Melanie Kala amassed 37 digs. Kala's last week efforts earned her AMC Defensive Player of the Week honors for the first time in her career.
On the season, WWU is currently sitting in third place in the AMC, tied with Park University, while being one of four teams still undefeated. The Owls sit a top of the conference in several categories, which includes kills (1049), assists (932), and digs (1306).
Leading the way for the Owls, offensively is
Emily Becker, who has posted 260 kills on the year, which is leading the AMC. The senior also has collected a team-high 10 double-doubles in 22 games this season.
Stephanie Davis is second on the team in kills with 197 and is pacing the Owls with an attack percentage of .297, while totaling an impressive 58 blocks on the year.
Defensively, there are five players in triple figures in the dig category, as
Shelby Hinshaw continues to still guide the Owls with a team-high 296. However,
Melanie Kala has came on lately, as the freshman has pushed her season total digs up to 255.
LU-B comes into this match-up with a 3-16 overall record and is 2-2 in the AMC on the season. Stephanie Cathcart leads the team with 177 kills, while the duo of Kacey Wahlig and Allie Holmes have handed out 278 and 225 assists, respectively. Defensively, Chelsea Crocker has posted a team-high 223 digs.
