Wiebe's First Collegiate Goal Leads The Owls Past Harris-Stowe State

ST. LOUIS, Mo.—In an early kick-off on Wednesday afternoon, the William Woods University women's soccer team was able to earn a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Harris-Stowe State University.

The Owls (4-6-2; 2-3-1 AMC) and Hornets (3-5-1; 3-2-1 AMC), battled throughout the first half, with HSSU holding a shot advantage of 8-4, but neither team could find the back of the net after 45:00 minutes of play.

Ashley Parisi, was busy in net for the Owls in the first frame, making four saves, while Bruna Prates De Oliveria made three saves for the Hornets.

In the second half, the two offenses' continued its push, as they combined for 18 shots. The Owls had a couple scoring chances, but both Shelby Wiebe's and Halle Schroeder's shots were saved by Prates De Oliveria.

The pressure was added on in the 45th minute and 51st minutes, as Jordan McNamara totaled two shots and Wiebe added one, but yet again, Prates De Oliveria came up with three key saves to keep the outing scoreless at 0-0.

Then, the Owls were finally able to break through in the 77th minute, as off a corner kick from Renee Meyer, Wiebe was able to score her first collegiate goal, which was also the game winner, allowing WWU to hang on for the one goal victory.

William Woods totaled 12 shots in the game and were led by McNamara having four, while Wiebe added three. In net, Parisi, picked up another victory, as she made seven saves in 90:00 minutes of action.

"Our girls played really well in a tough environment," said head coach Randy Hall. "Their goalkeeper had a really stellar day that makes the win feel even better."

The Hornets, meanwhile, were led by Megan Wilson having 12 of the teams' 18 shots. In goal, Prates De Oliveria had a strong outing, making nine saves.

WWU will now return back home for a four game stretch, with its first being on Saturday afternoon, as the Owls host Freed-Hardeman University. Kick-off will start at 1 p.m. from Firley Field.
