FULTON, Mo. – After the completion of the regular season, The William Woods University volleyball team grabbed the No.4
th seed in the American Midwest Conference (AMC), as the team will host the No. 5
th seeded Williams Baptist College in the Quarterfinals on Tuesday. The first serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
The Owls (22-14; 9-3 AMC), are currently on a four game skid, but looks to bounce back after coming off a 3-0 deficit to the No, 8 ranked Park University last week. Becker led the way for WWU with 10 kills, committing just one error to earn an impressive .450 attack percentage.
Brittney Engelbrecht handed out 15 assists, while she tied Becker with a team-high four digs.
In WWU last four games, they have not been easy match-ups, as all of them have been against Top 25-ranked teams in the nation.
Becker, heads into the post season, pacing the team offensively, with 417 kills on the year and averaging 3.34 per set. The senior has earned a .274 attack percentage, which is second on the team, while amassing 368 digs good enough for third on the team. She also, leads the team with a new career-high mark of 13 double-double performances and 95 blocks.
Stephanie Davis has had her best season to date, posting 310 kills with a team-high attack percentage of .276, while ranked second on the team with 90 blocks. Engelbrecht the Owls setter, not only sits a top of the team but also the AMC with her 1,259 assists, which is tenth best in the nation. Additionally, the sophomore has been a weapon for the Owls from the service line, leading the team with 35 aces on the year.
Defensively, WWU libero,
Shelby Hinshaw has also set new career- high marks this season, as the junior has gathered a team-high 426 digs, while collecting 67 assists on the season.
This will be the second meeting on the season between the Owls and Lady Eagles (20-12, 8-4 AMC), as WWU was able to escape Walnut Ridge, Arkansas with the 3-2 win in the five set thriller, back on October 3
rd of this year.
Becker led the way with 15 kills and 12 digs, while
Lauren Rodewald contributed 13 kills and Davis chipped in 11 kills. Engelbrecht recorded a match-high 45 assists, while
Melanie Kala gathered a stellar 21 digs.
WBC enters the game on a five game win streak, as the Lady Eagles closed out its regular season last week, with a three set sweep over St. Louis College of Pharmacy.
On the season, offensively, Williams Baptist has had three players plateau with over 200 kills, as Madison Laubach leads the way with 248 kills, while Kaillie Ralston is right behind her with 238 and Harley Strayhorn adds 216 kills with a team-high .335 attack percentage.
The setting duo of Taylor Barton and Jordan Harvey leads the team in the assist category with 576 and 432, respectively. Defensively, Jessica Baugh has gathered 313 digs on the year, averaging 3.13 per set.
The winner of the match-up will keep its 2015 season alive and move onto the Semifinals, with a square of with the winner of the No. 1 seeded Missouri Baptist vs. Freed-Hardeman game on Friday November 13
th at Park University.
