(RV) Men's Basketball Looks For Its Sixth AMC Win On New Year's Eve

Johnson looks to build off his career-high 26 points against STLCOP.
FULTON, Mo.— The (RV) William Woods University men's basketball team will look to capture one final win in 2015, on New Year's Eve, as the Owls host St. Louis College of Pharmacy. Tip-off will start at 2 p.m.

The Owls (9-4; 5-0 AMC), will be on the court for the first time since December 20th, when they fell in an exhibition game against Missouri S&T, 102-97.

Prior to that outing, the Owls won its fifth consecutive American Midwest Conference (AMC) game on December 17th, as they defeated Hannibal-LaGrange University, 78-71.

In that game, the team shot 48.5 percent from the floor and were led by DJ Johnson's dominant performance, as he netted a career-high 26 points on 13-of-15 shooting from the floor and grabbed down 15 rebounds, which tied his career-high. For his efforts, Johnson earned AMC Player of the Week honors.

Austin Lowery, a St. Charles, Missouri, native, eclipsed the double-digit point mark for the fifth consecutive game, as he finished with 15 points off the bench. Trey Mitchell added 13 points, while Darrien Dickey, netted a season-high 10.

In AMC play, the Owls, have been dominant, scoring 82.6 points, shooting 46.3 percent from the floor, 38.2 percent from downtown and own a rebounding advantage of 218-187.

Lowery, a senior, has found success against the conference foes, as he is scoring 17.6 points, while shooting 59.1 percent from the field, 51.9 percent from beyond-the-arc and is shooting 91.7 percent from the charity-stripe. Deon Pettigrew, a Tampa, Florida, native, is averaging 16.8 points in five starts, while leading the team in rebounds (45) and steals (six).

On the season, as a team, they rank sixth in the NAIA in assist/turnover ratio (1.35), seventh in total assists (235), seventh in total blocks (55), ninth in assists per game (18.0), 12th in blocks per game (4.23), 12th in 3-pointers made (116), 15th in 3-pointers made per game (8.92) and 15th in 3-point field goal percentage (38.5).

Pettigrew, is leading the way with his 15.4 point per game average and also leads the Owls with 84 rebounds and 18 steals. Lowery, has upped his average to 14.3 points and is shooting over 47.0 percent from both the floor and from downtown, while after his breakout performance, DJ Johnson, is now averaging 12.3 points per game.

STLCOP (0-8; 0-5 AMC), are still looking for its first win on the year, as they are coming off a 77-43 loss against Lyon College, back on December 19th.

The Eutectics, shot 37.8 percent from the field and were led by Kyle Jones' 13 points on 4-of-11 shooting. Alex Metzger was the final player to get into double-digits, as he finished with 10 points and a game-high six rebounds.

On the season, the teams' offense has struggled, as they are averaging 47.3 points, while shooting 32.4 percent from the floor. Its opponents, however, are averaging 86.3 points per game and are hitting 51.3 percent of its shots.

Jones, is pacing the offense with his 12.6 average and team-high 17 assists, while Colton Frazer, is right behind Jones, averaging 12.5 points and is shooting a team-high 40.2 percent from the field.
