Women's Basketball Coast Past STLCOP, 72-39

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University women's basketball team ended the 2015 year in dominating fashion, as the Owls cruised past St. Louis College of Pharmacy 72-39 on Thursday afternoon.
 
The Owls (9-3;4-2 AMC), grabbed its third straight American Midwest Conference win, also making it their third consecutive double-digit victory.
 
After a sluggish start from both teams in the first quarter, it was WWU who gained some breathing room from the Eutectics, as the Owls jumped out to a 11-4 lead, after an offensive put back from senior Julia Wells.
 
STLCOP Erica Feith, connected on 1-of-2 from the free throw line, to cut the Owls lead down to eight at 13-5, as the first frame came to an end.
 
The second quarter was relatively similar to the first 10:00 minutes of play, as WWU came out of the huddle on a 14-0 run, capped off by a three pointer from freshman Kendra Vaughan, pushing the Owls out to a commanding 22 point lead at 27-5 with 2:18 left to play till half time.
 
The Eutectics would try to get a boast of energy, as its leading scored Emi Santhuff hit a bucket in the paint but with .06 seconds left on the clock, Kelsey Scherder would hustle for an offensive rebound and put back, to give the Owls a 33-9 lead going into the locker room at half.
 
William Woods shot 43.8 percent from the floor, going 14-of-32, as Nia Lateju led the team with seven points, while Wells gathered an impressive 10 rebounds in just the first half of play. STLCOP, meanwhile, was held to 10.7 percent shooting from the floor, as Forshee paced the way with six boards and two points.
 
In the third quarter, the Eutectics came out and put together a 6-0 run to cut the score down to 35-15, but then, at the 2:14 mark, Bailey Rollins nailed a three pointer to extend the Owls advantage back up to 26 (45-19) and then Vaughan would extended the WWU lead out even more, as she sank her second three of the game, giving the Owls the 50-21 lead going into the final frame of the game.
 
The Owls picked up right where they left off, as the team took control of the game, pushing the score out to its largest lead of the game, at 35 points (66-31) with a Kailey Morris basket from downtown and then shortly after, went on to secure the 72-39 victory over STLCOP.
 
William Woods ended the game shooting a red hot 46.8 percent from the field and 38.5 percent from beyond the arc, as the Eutectics connected on just 12-of-35 of their shots, on 23.8 percent shooting.
 
Vaughn, WWU freshman, who caught fire from the three point line, finished the day with a season and game-high of 16 points, as she was 6-of-7 from the field and 4-of-5 from downtown. Lateju also had a strong showing, as the senior collected 11 points, while Morris added nine points, all from the three point line and Rollins chipped in seven points. Wells, was busy on the boards, as the senior grabbed down a team-high 12 rebounds, along with her five points on the day.
 
The Owls return back to action on Saturday, as the team travels to Park University for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off, looking for its fifth AMC victory on the season.
