Softball Cruises Past MidAmerica Nazarene, But Falls In The Finale Against Friends University

CHICKSASHA, Okla.—The No. 19-ranked William Woods University softball team split its double header action on Saturday in Oklahoma, as they defeated (RV) MidAmerica Nazarene 9-2, but fell in game two, 11-0 (five innings) to Friends University.

The Owls (2-4), totaled nine runs on 13 hits against the Pioneers (3-6), as they scored two runs in the first, followed by three in the third, three in the fourth and one more run in the fifth, to win by seven.
 
Offensively, the team was led by its 3-4-5 hitters of Macy Wierschem, Emily Murphy and Kacey Scharnhorst, as the trio combined to go 8-for-11, with four runs scored and eight RBI.
 
Hannah Campbell went 2-for-4 with two runs scored in the leadoff spot, while Sydnae Hatton, Caroline Sicht and Shelby LeCuru added one hit each.
 
On the rubber, freshman Bre Logan picked up her first collegiate victory, as she threw a complete game, allowing two runs on three hits and struck out a career-high seven batters.
 
MNU's three hits came from its 6-7-8 hitters, as Kaity Wills, Macie Jones and Kimberly Montoya, added one hit each, while combining for two runs scored and two RBI.

In game two, the Owls bats were held quiet, as they totaled six hits and committed three errors defensively against the Falcons (4-2).
 
Friends University scored one run in the first, two in the second and eight more in the third, as they went on for the 11-run shutout victory.
 
At the plate, Campbell led the offense, going 2-for-3, while Scharnhorst, Murphy, Sicht and Beth Begemann added one hit a piece. Pitching wise, the duo of Julie Scheer and freshman Allison Waskow had its struggles, as Scheer went 2.1 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits, while Waskow came on in relief, going 2.2 innings, allowing six runs on six hits.
 
The team will return to action next Friday in the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Georgia, as they will take on Ave Maria and Belhaven University on Friday night at 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. CT. On Saturday, the team will face Corban University at 11:30 a.m. CT
