COLUMBUS, Ga.—The No. 19-ranked William Woods University softball team dropped its fourth game in a row on Sunday morning, as the Owls fell in the Silver Championship Bracket at the NFCA Leadoff Classic on the consolation side against Lindenwood University-Belleville, 4-2.
The Owls (3-8), trailed 3-0 at the end of the first inning, as the Lady Lynx (2-4) hit two home runs off the bats of Mikayla Conlin and Jamie Navarra to grab the early advantage.
WWU would narrow the lead down to one run in the top of the fifth, as the team scored two runs, but LU-Belleville would tally another run in the home half of the sixth inning and go on for the two run victory.
WWU totaled five hits in the game, led by
Beth Begemann going 2-for-2 with one runs scored. Junior
Emily Murphy went 1-for-1 with a pinch-hit RBI, while
Brailee Schulte and
Caroline Sicht added one hit each.
Inside the circle, freshman
Allison Waskow allowed four runs on five hits in 6.0 innings of work, while striking out five Lady Lynx batters.
LU-Belleville, meanwhile, was led by Navarro, as the No. 4-hitter in the lineup went 2-for-3 with one runs scored and two RBI. On the rubber, Taylor Winn collected the victory, as she pitched 4.2 innings, allowing two runs (zero earned) on three hits and struck out three. Michele Plister came on in relief and collected the save, after hurling 2.1 innings of shutout ball, allowing one hit and earning three strikeouts.
The Owls will look to snap its four game skid on Thursday March 5
th, in the teams' home opener, as WWU hosts Missouri Valley College. First-pitch in game one of the doubleheader will be thrown at 1 p.m.
