FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University baseball team captured the weekend series win against Harris-Stowe State University, sweeping the Hornets, in a slugfest in a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. Taking game one 15-4 and concluded the three game series with a 15-6 victory.

The Owls(20-6:9-3 AMC), amassed a season-high 30 runs, on the day, while collecting 29 hits between the doubleheader against HSSU, outscoring the Hornets 33-12 in the three game series. WWU would record its 20
th win on the season with the season series sweep on the weekend and extend its win streak to five games.

Game two William Woods 15 Harris-Stowe 4Â
The hit fest for the Owls on the afternoon would start in the bottom of the first inning of game one, as
Larry Price would lead off with a single and after a wild throw from HSSU starter Brady Swift trying to pick off Price at first, Price would advance to second. Then
Cody Stewart would move Price up 90 feet with a ground out, as
Austin Clapp hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Price for the 1-0 WWU lead. Shortly after
Dustin Kremer was hit by a pitch, followed by a
Nick Spagnola double to deep left, plating the Owls second run.
Alex St. Pierre would get into the action as he would single up the middle, scoring Spagnola and extending the Owls lead to 3-0.

The Owls would put another run on the board in the bottom of the second, on two hits. However, the Hornets would respond by getting two runs back in the top of the third as they totaled four hits off of WWU starting pitcher,
Adam Brush making the score 4-2.

Then in the next inning HSSU would tie the game up at four all, plating two runs, after back-to-back walks and a double to deep left field from Austin Aguirre.

That didn't stop the William Woods offense, as the team would get a rally going in the bottom of the fifth, scoring 10 runs on seven hits and two HSSU errors. The Owls would bat around the entire line up in the half of the inning, giving them the commanding 14-4 lead over HSSU.

The Owls added one more run in the bottom of the sixth to go on the cruise past the Hornets and take game two of the series 15-4, tying its season best 15 hits in seven innings.

Clapp and St. Pierre paced the Owls offensively, as both were perfect from the plate. Clapp, the Macon, Missouri native, was 2-for-2, with a triple, three stolen bases, two RBI's and scored two runs. St. Pierre, went 3-for3 from the dish, collecting a double and a team-high three RBI's. Price, Spagnola and
Konrad Kemper also tallied a pair of hits in the game.

On the mound, Brush collected his first win on the season, by only giving up four runs, on six hits, while striking out four batters in four innings of work.

Game three William Woods 15 Harris-Stowe 6Â
The William Woods offense kept its hot-streak alive in the final game of the series, totaling 15 runs for the second straight game, on 14 hits. Despite HSSU getting on the board first by plating two in the top of the first. The Owls would get one of the runs back in their half of the inning.

WWU gave up two more runs in the top of the second, giving the Hornets its first lead of the day, 4-1. Although, HSSU lead didn't hold long, as the Owls would put seven runs on the board, on five hits, to regain control and make the score 8-4.

Then the Hornets would plate their last two runs in the top of the fifth on two hits and an Owls error, to cut WWU advantage to two, 8-6.

In the Bottom of the sixth inning,
Dustin Kremer would make his appearance, as the senior would collect his second home run and first grand slam on the season, in dominating fashion by crushing a ball over the left field fence, collecting four RBI's and extending the Owls lead to 15-6.

After holding the Hornets scoreless in the last two innings, the Owls went on to secure the 15-6 victory and sweep over HSSU.

Clapp continued to stay hot at the plate, as the senior went 3-for-4, recording one RBI and scoring three runs, while Stewart and Spagnola also collected three hits a piece in the final game. Kremer would go .500 from the dish and totaled a team-high five RBI's. On the hill,
Ryan Schmidt collected his third win on the year, while only giving up two runs and striking out four batters.

The Owls will return to action on Tuesday, as the team will pay a visit to Avila University. The first pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
