FULTON, Mo.—The William Woods University softball team picked up another impressive win in as many days on Saturday afternoon, as the Owls flew past Lyon College in game one, winning 8-0 (six innings), but the Scots held off WWU in game two, winning 5-3 (9 innings).
William Woods University 8 Lyon College 0 The Owls (19-20; 8-6 AMC), could have not played a more perfect game one against the first place Scots (23-14; 17-5 AMC), as the Owls totaled eight runs on 14 hits, while getting a dominating pitching performance from freshman,
Bre Logan.

The Columbia, Missouri, native, controlled the Scots from start-to-finish, as she hurled 6.0 innings, allowing no runs on just two hits and struck out three batters, while only needing 68 pitches to earn her eighth win on the year.

The scoring got started in the bottom of the first, as after
Hannah Campbell reached base on a single, but was caught stealing for just the third time this year,
Sydnae Hatton hit a one out infield single.

Leading RBI getter,
Kacey Scharnhorst, ripped a double down the left field line, putting runners on second and third for
Emily Murphy. The Tulsa, Oklahoma, native, came through, hitting a single up the middle, scoring both Hatton and Scharnhorst, to give the Owls a 2-0 lead.

That score remained the same until the bottom of the fourth, as the Owls plated four runs on six hits.
Shelby LeCuru got the first RBI in the inning, as she successfully executed the squeeze play, allowing Murphy to score from third, who led the inning off with a single, to make it 3-0.

After a
Brailee Schulte single,
Macy Wierschem singled to right-center, which scored
Alexi Cavins, who also reached base on a single, to extend the advantage out to 4-0. The hit parade continued, as after
Hannah Campbell added another single to left, the bases were loaded for Hatton, and she doubled down the left field line, scoring Schulte and Wierschem to put the scoreboard at 6-0, after four innings of play.

Logan made quick work of the Scots in the fifth and sixth innings, which allowed WWU to spark the eight run mercy rule after five innings of play in the bottom of the sixth.

Shelby LeCuru got things going with a single to right and she was able to score one batter later, as Schulte hit a double, to push the lead to 7-0. Schulte didn't stay at second base long, as Wierschem hit a double of her own, scoring Schulte to make it an 8-0 game and a win for the Owls.

WWU had six different players tally two hits each in the game, with Campbell, Hatton, Murphy, LeCuru, Schulte and Wierschem each contributing two hits. Wierschem, Hatton and Murphy totaled two RBI, while LeCuru and Schulte contributed one.

Lyon College 5 William Woods University 3In game two, it was the Scots jumping out to the early advantage in the top of the first this time around, as Savannah Graham led off with a double to left-center and she was able to move up a base, after Lexi Reyes laid down a sacrifice bunt.

After Savannah Fuller reached on a fielder's choice, Stephanie Haft doubled to left-center, scoring Graham and Fuller from first, to make it a 2-0 game.

The Owls, however, responded in the home half of the inning, as Hatton hit a one out triple down the right field line. Scharnhorst continued to add to her RBI total, as she singled to right, scoring Hatton and cutting the advantage down to 2-1.

In the top of the third, Lyon was able to work the bases loaded, but were only able to muster up one run, as Stephanie Bagwell singled to left, which scored Haft, who worked a walk earlier in the inning. Owls starter
Allison Waskow, got out of the inning, as she was able to bare down and get Tess Hurley-Brown to strike out looking to end the frame.

William Woods struck again in the bottom of the fourth, as Schulte and Wierschem hit consecutive singles to start off the inning.
Sam Parsons moved the runners up one base, as she laid down a sacrifice bunt, which allowed Schulte to score during the next at-bat, as Campbell singled to right, to make it a 3-2 game.

Waskow didn't allow a runner to reach base in the fifth and sixth innings, which allowed the offense to reward her for her efforts inside the circle in the bottom of the sixth, as Schulte got the offense going with a leadoff double down the left field line. After two consecutive fly-outs, Campbell singled to center, scoring Schulte and tying the game up at 3-3.

The Owls had a chance to win the game in the bottom of the seventh, as the team had a runner on third with one out, but Scots starter, Nicole Sanders, retired the next two batters and in the process forced extra innings.

In the top of the eighth, the Scots again had the bases loaded with two outs, but Waskow wasn't bothered by that, as the freshman got the final out, with Graham flying out to left.

Then, in the top of the ninth, Lyon was finally able to regain the lead, as they plated two runs on three hits, getting RBI from Haft and Haley Huffstuttler to make it 5-3. Sanders, meanwhile, was able to work around a one out single in the bottom of the ninth and secure the two run victory for the Scots.

Waskow took the tough loss, as she went 9.0 innings, allowing five runs on 10 hits and struck out three batters. Sanders took home the win for Lyon, as she allowed three runs on 13 hits and struck out four over the 9.0 innings.

Offensively, WWU was led by Schulte and Hatton each going 3-for-4 at the plate and combining for three runs scored. Wierschem and Campbell each totaled two hits, while Scharnhorst, Murphy and LeCuru added one.

Graham led Lyon from the leadoff spot, going 3-for-5 with one run scored. Haft brought home a game-high three RBI, while going 2-for-4 at the plate, with two runs scored.

The Owls will have another big contest in its next time out, as they will host American Midwest Conference (AMC) rival, Columbia College, on Tuesday, April 14
th, at Backer Sports Complex. First-pitch will be thrown at 2 p.m.
