HENDERSON, Tenn.—The William Woods University softball team dropped game one against Freed-Hardeman University, 10-2 (5 innings), but came back with a 5-3 victory in the finale.
Freed-Hardeman University 10 William Woods University 2 In game one, the Lady Lions (23-14; 15-7 AMC), were able to grab the early lead in the bottom of the first, as Jessica Weeks and Caitlyn Carter hit consecutive singles to start the inning.

After a Kamara Trice walk to load the bases, Owls (21-22; 10-8 AMC) starter,
Bre Logan, got the next two batters to strike out swinging. The Columbia, Missouri, native, however, couldn't retire Lauren Bradley, as she singled to shallow center, scoring Weeks and Carter, to make it a 2-0 game.

The Owls answered right back in the top of the second, as hot-hitting
Brailee Schulte got things going with a one out single. After a fly-out,
Shelby LeCuru worked a walk and both Schulte and LeCuru were able to score during the next at-bat, as
Macy Wierschem doubled to right center, which tied the score 2-2.

After both Logan and FHU starter, Katie Clarke, made quick work in the third and fourth innings of each opposing lineups, the Lady Lions put the game away in the bottom of the fifth, as they scored eight runs on six hits, while WWU committed two errors.

With its outburst in the fifth inning, Freed-Hardeman took a 10-2 lead, which ignited the eight run mercy rule after five innings of play and they went on for the victory.

The Owls totaled five hits in the game, with
Hannah Campbell,
Sydnae Hatton, Schulte,
Caroline Sicht and Wierschem having one hit each. Logan took the tough loss, as she went 4.2 innings, allowing eight earned runs on 11 hits and struck out four.

The Lady Lions scattered 11 hits in the game, led by leadoff hitter Weeks, going 4-for-4, with three runs scored and two RBI. Bradley led the way with a game high four RBI, while going 2-for-3 at the dish. Carter and Kohnley Wade also added two hits and combined for two runs scored and two RBI.

On the rubber, Clarke earned her second win on the year, as she went 5.0 innings, allowing two runs and struck out one.

William Woods University 5 Freed-Hardeman University 3 Game two was a different story for the Owls, as this time around, they struck first to start the game, as Hatton reached base on a one out single. After ace Kamara Trice got the next batter for the second out in the inning,
Beth Begemann singled to center, which put runners on the corners.

Schulte then, came through, hitting a double to deep right field, scoring Hatton and Begemann, to give the Owls a 2-0 advantage. The team wasn't done there, as Sicht singled to left, scoring Schulte from second, to extend the lead out to 3-0.

FHU got one of those runs back in the home half of the first, as after Weeks led the inning off with single down the left field line, she scored two batters later, as Trice tripled to deep right, which cut the lead to 3-1.

That score remained the same until the top of the fifth, as the Owls bats got going again, with Hatton and
Kacey Scharnhorst reaching bases on consecutive singles.

Begemann came to the dish and hit the third consecutive single, scoring Hatton, to give the Owls some breathing room at 4-1. After a groundout, Sicht contributed again with a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Scharnhorst and putting the scoreboard at 5-1.

In the bottom of the fifth, Weeks tallied another RBI, scoring Wade from third, who reached base earlier in the inning on a fielder's choice. FHU narrowed the Owls lead down to 5-3 in the bottom of the sixth, as Bradley hit a sacrifice fly, which scored Trice, who got on base after an Owls defensive error.

In the top of the seventh, the Owls had a chance to extend its lead, as they had runners on first and third with two outs, but reliever Baylee Terranova, got LeCuru to fly out to deep left and ended the threat.

The excitement continued into the bottom of the seventh, as Wade led the inning off with a single. WWU starter
Allison Waskow, got the next two batters on a ground out and fly out, but Trice kept the Lady Lions alive, with a single to left, putting the tying run on first.

Waskow, however, was able to record her ninth win on the season, as she got Madison Reed to strike out and secure the two run victory for the Owls.

WWU totaled 10 hits in the game, led by Begemann going 3-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI. Schulte and Sicht led the team in the RBI category, having two each. Hatton and Scharnhorst both went 2-for-4 and combined for three runs scored.

Inside the circle, Waskow was impressive in her complete game outing, allowing just two earned runs on nine hits, while striking out one and walking none.

At the plate for FHU, they were led by Trice, going 3-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI. Weeks went 2-for-4 with a run scored and RBI of her own.

The Owls will be back in front of the home crowd on Sunday afternoon, as they will host Stephens College, in its final regular season game on the 2015 season. First-pitch is set for 1 p.m.
