COLUMBIA, Mo.—The No. 5-seeded William Woods University softball team belted three home runs in a 7-0 win against No. 4-seeded Freed-Hardeman University to stay in the winners bracket of the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Tournament, but the Owls fell in game two, 3-2, against No. 1 seed Lindenwood University-Belleville, to close out the day on Wednesday.

The Owls (28-23; 16-8 AMC), will return to action tomorrow at 9 a.m., as they will take on No. 2-seeded Park University, who fell to No. 7 seed Missouri Baptist University, 5-4, but stayed alive in the elimination part of the bracket, as they defeated No. 3-seeded Lyon College, 7-4.

It was an offensive outburst in game one against the Lady Lions (24-16; 16-8 AMC), as WWU totaled seven runs on 13 hits, including smacking three home runs.

On the rubber, meanwhile, Allison Waskow, was able to pick up her 12th win on the year, as she went 7.0 innings, allowing no runs on three hits and struck out six.

The scoring got started in the bottom of the first, as leadoff hitter Hannah Campbell, hit her first home run on the season, over the left-center field wall, to give WWU a 1-0 lead. After Sydnae Hatton reached base on an error, FHU starter Katie Clarke, was able to retire the next two batters, on fly-outs to center.

Brailee Schulte, however, continued the hit parade, as she hit her second home run on the year, also over the left-center field wall, to extend the teams' lead out to 3-0. The Owls weren't done there, as Shelby LeCuru followed Schulte up, with a home run over her own, the third one to be hit over the left-center field wall, to give WWU plenty of momentum and a 4-0 advantage.

WWU added another run in the bottom of the second, as Campbell scored on a FHU defensive error, to make it a 5-0 game. An RBI double in the bottom of the fourth, off the bat of LeCuru, made it 6-0 Owls, as she scored Kacey Scharnhorst, who reached base on a one out single.

Then, in the bottom of the sixth, Beth Begemann singled home Hatton, who bunted and reached base to lead off the inning, to extend the teams' lead out to 7-0. Waskow, who was dominant all morning, made quick work of the Lady Lion hitters in the top of the seventh and secured the win for WWU.

LeCuru led the way in game one, going 3-for-3 with one run scored and two RBI. Schulte also added two RBI and went 2-for-4 at the dish. Hatton, Scharnhorst and Begemann, were the other Owls to collect two hits each.

In game two, the Owls faced a tough Lady Lynx (33-21; 19-5 AMC) team, that prior to this meeting, had already defeated William Woods, on three separate occasions on the year.

In the top of the first, the Owls were able to grab the early lead, as Hatton was able to score on Begemann's ripped single to right, to give them a 1-0 advantage on the scoreboard.

The Lady Lynx, however, answered right back in the bottom of the inning, as pitcher Taylor Winn, hit a sacrifice fly out to left, scoring Kaylin Stewart, who led the inning off with a walk.

That score remained the same until the home half of the third, as LU-Belleville, plated two runs on just one hit. Nicolle Miskowicz led off with a walk and she moved on over to third, after Jamie Navarro singled to right.

WWU starter, Bre Logan, was able to get the next batter to fly-out, but couldn't retire Mikayla Conlin, who reached base on a fielder's choice, allowing Miskowicz to score and give the Lady Lynx a 2-1 advantage. Then, a sacrifice fly from Marisa Cinquepalmi, scored Navarro, made it a 3-1 game.

In the top of the fifth, the Owls got one of those runs back, as Campbell was able to hit a one-out double to left center. After a passed ball, Campbell was able to score on Hatton's infield single, to narrow the lead down to 3-2.

After that run scored, LU-Belleville brought in reliever Michele Plister, in hopes of slowing down the WWU offense. Plister, was able to get out of the jam, against the heart of the WWU order and keep the Lady Lynx lead at 3-2.

In the top of the seventh, WWU had a chance to tie the game or take the lead, as they threatened with runners on first and second base, with two outs, but Schulte's line drive, went right into the glove of Plister, which ended the game and gave LU-Belleville a 3-2 win.

The Owls totaled seven hits in the game, four of which came off the bat of Hatton, who went 4-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI. Begemann added one hit and one RBI, while Campbell and Caroline Sicht added the other hits.

Logan, meanwhile, took the tough loss on the rubber, as she went 4.2 innings, allowing three runs on three hits and struck out one.

Winn, was able to pick up the victory for the Lady Lynx, as she went 4.1 innings, allowing two runs (zero earned) on five hits and struck out two. Plister, was able to pick up the save, going 2.2 innings and totaled one strikeout.

Awaiting the Owls, is the No. 2-seeded Pirates (26-13; 17-6 AMC), who swept the doubleheader in its last meeting, as Park won game one 4-1 and game two 8-5, back on April 3rd.
