ATCHISON, Kan.—The William Woods University women's soccer team ran into another tough opponent to start the 2015 season, as the Owls fell 5-0 to No. 6-ranked Benedictine College on Sunday night.
The Owls (0-2), were outshot 28-1 in the game, with the lone attempt coming off the foot of
Annie Graber.
The Ravens (3-0), got on the board at the 9:04 mark, as Kara Hines gave them a 1-0 lead off an assist from Liz Enna. The team went on to add two more goals before the half ended, as Anna Romano scored in the 17
th minute and Rosie McShane gave the Ravens a 3-0 lead in the 27
th minute.
Coming off her career-high 11 saves against No. 23-ranked Missouri Valley College, WWU goaltender,
Ashley Parisi, made seven saves through the first 45:00 minutes of play.
In the second half,
Rebecca Sturgess made her first collegiate appearance in net for the Owls, and she was able to make three saves in the first 16:00 minutes of the half. In the 70
th minute, however, Ashley Chandler's shot went off the post, but she followed it up and scored, to make it 4-0 Benedictine.
Chandler went on to score another goal in the 78
th minute, to make it a five goal victory for the Ravens. Parisi and Sturgess combined to make 10 saves in the game for the Owls.
Chandler, meanwhile, led the Ravens offense with 10 shots, with six landing on net and netted two goals. Enna was also an impact player for Benedictine, totaling four shots and adding a game-high two assists.
The Owls will look to grab its first win on the 2015 season in front of the home crowd on Thursday, September 3
rd, when the team hosts Avila University. Kick-off will start at 7 p.m.
