Box Score 2 SPRINGFIELD, Mo. –The William Woods University volleyball team went 2-0 on the first day of Evangel Tournament, as the team defeated Cumberland University in three straight sets (25-13, 25-23, 25-21) and John Brown University in a thriller five set match (14-25, 25-16, 21-25, 25-14, 15-13).
The Owls (6-5:1-0 AMC) pushed their record over .500 in their first day of the Evangel Tournament, as
Stephanie Davis lead the team with 21 kills on the day.
William Woods 3 Cumberland 0 The Owls totaled 42 kills, while Davis collected 10 kills and an attack percent of .444.
Shelby Hinshaw lead the team with nine digs and
Brittney Engelbrecht handed out a game-high 38 assists.
William Woods 3 John Brown 2The second game of the Evangel Tournament, the team totaled a game-high 44 kills in the trilling five set win, as
Emily Becker lead the team with 13 kills, while
Stephanie Davis contributed with 11 and
Lauren Rodewald added 10 kills in the Owls win. Defensively,the Owls were strong, as four players reached double-figures in digs,
Melanie Kala (10),
Shelby Hinshaw (15),
Emily Becker (12) and Engelbrecht (15). Becker, alos picked up her second double-double performance of the year, with her 13 kills and 12 digs to help WWU defeat JBU.
The Owls return to action tomorrow, as the team squares off with Tabor College at 10 a.m. and wraps up its tournament play with College of the Ozarks at 2 p.m.
