Owls Split In Its Second Day At The Evangel University Tournament

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The William Woods University volleyball team split its final day at the Evangel University Tournament, as the Owls dropped to Tabor College in five (29-27,16-25, 25-22,12-25,10-15) before defeating College of the Ozarks in four sets (25-22,21-25, 25-20, 25-17).

In the Owls (7-6; 1-0 AMC), last day of the tournament the team had a thrilling five set match with the Blue Jays, that saw WWU amass 55 kills as a team, while three players were able to collect double-figures in the kill department. 


Senior Emily Becker led the way with 14 kills and 11 digs, recording her second consecutive double-double, meanwhile fellow teammates Cierra Merz and Stephanie Davis each added 11 kills a piece. Brittney Engelbrecht recorded 52 assists and 10 digs in the game.

After falling to Tabor earlier in the morning, the Owls knew they needed to bounce back and capture a victory to close its tournament play strong, as the team did just that. WWU collected 56 kills as a team with an attack percentage of .245. 


Offensively, the Owls were led by Becker again, as the senior tallied 13 kills, pushing her total on the day to 27. Two other seniors that had an impressive outing were Lauren Rodewald and Rachel Frabotta, who recorded 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Engelbrecht handed out 51 assists, while Shelby Hinshaw collected a team-high 16 digs. 


The Owls get back in action on Tuesday September 16th, as the team returns back home to host College of the Ozarks for a 7:00 first serve, inside Anderson Arena.
