POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. – After going .500 at the MidAmerica Nazarene Rachel Magana Memorial Tournament this past weekend, the William Woods University volleyball team returns to the court on Tuesday night, as the team pays a visit to College of the Ozarks for a 7:00 p.m. match-up.
The Owls (11-8; 1-0 AMC), are coming off a 2-2 performance this past weekend, that saw the team sweep Benedictine College (25-20, 25-20, 25-21), then falling to Evangel University in three sets (14-25, 19-25, 23-25) in the first day and captured the redemption win against Baker University in four (26-24, 16-25, 25-21, 25-11), before dropping to MidAmerica Nazarene in straight sets (24-26, 25-14, 14-25).
Offensively, WWU totaled 180 kills, as
Emily Becker led the way with 49 kills and an attack percentage of .327, while
Lauren Rodewald and Tori Wiley each added 31 kills.
Brittney Engelbrecht pushed her season total in assists up to 724 on the year, while freshman
Melanie Kala amassed a career-high 53 digs on the weekend.
At the conclusion of the MNU Tournament, Becker, a Belleville, Illinois native, was named to the All-Tournament team, with her 49 kills and 36 digs.
On the season, Becker paces the offense for the Owls with 218 kills, averaging 3.25 per set, while also recording a team-high 38 blocks. Engrelbrecht has continued to be a key impact for WWU, as the sophomore averages 10.38 assists per set on the year and her 724 season total ranks her 17
th in the nation.
Defensively,
Shelby Hinshaw still sits a top of the team with 266 digs, while Becker is second on the team with 168 and Kala has posted 144 on the year.
College of the Ozarks come into this game with a 10-11 overall record, as this will be the third meeting between them and the Owls this year. Back on September 12
th, WWU defeated the Lady Bobcats in four (25-22, 21-25, 25-20, 25-17), as Becker led the way with 13 kills, while Hinshaw posted 16 digs. Then a few days later, on September 15
th, the Owls captured the 2-0 season advantage over College of the Ozarks in four sets (17-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-22). Rodewald amassed 17 kills, while Becker collected a double-double with 13 kills and 24 digs.
On the season for the Lady Bobcats, Danielle Curns leads the team with 201 kills, averaging 2.51 per set, while Brandi Stahl paces the back row with 389 digs and the duo of Lindsey Boone and Sarah Kruel have combined for 716 assists on the year.
