Men’s Basketball Falls to Central Baptist

CONWAY, Ark. – The William Woods University Men's Basketball team suffered its first American Midwest Conference loss of the season on Saturday afternoon when they were defeated by Central Baptist College, 97-69.
 
The Owls were led by Shannon James, who scored 19 points in the contest. Alec Mulvihill followed with 14 points to round out the double figure scorers.
 
William Woods returns to action on Tuesday, November 22nd when they host Haskell Indian Nations University in its home opener. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Anderson Arena.
 
Game Flow
The Owls raced out to a 5-0 lead in the first minute and a half of the contest as Shannon James scored all five points for the Owls. The five point lead did not last long for the Owls as the mustangs came back and took a 1 point lead, 8-7, after a three pointer by Jayln McBride.
 
WWU continued to keep it close as a free throw by Keith Jackson trimmed Central Baptists lead down to four points, 19-15. However, the Mustangs offense started to heat up and a two pointer by Rob Sanders gave the Mustangs a 15 point lead, 31-16. The lead continued to grow for Central Baptist as they stretched the game out to a 24 margin, 54-30, at halftime.
 
Central Baptist continued to come out shooting the ball well in the second half as they grew the lead to 29 points, 64-35, over the first two and a half minutes of the second half. WWU continued to battle but could not cut into the Mustangs lead as Central Baptist lead continued to grow.
 
WWU battled trimming the lead down to 26 points, 75-49, after a three-pointer by Mulvihill. However, after his three-pointer, the Mustangs stretched the lead back to a 34 point lead, 83-49, with 11:13 left in the contest.
 
The Owls continued to battle in the contest as they went on a 14-2 run trimming the lead down to 22 points, 85-63. That would be as close as they Owls would get in the second half as they were defeated, 97-69, on Saturday afternoon.
