Men's Basketball Hosts Missouri Baptist In AMC Action Thursday

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University Men's Basketball team hosts Missouri Baptist University in an American Midwest Conference contest on December 1st at 7:30 p.m. at Anderson Arena. This will be the first home AMC contest of the season.
 
ABOUT THE OWLS
- The Owls enter the contest with an overall record of 5-3 and an AMC record of 1-1, coming out on top over Lyon, but falling short to Central Baptist in AMC action.
- The Owls are coming off an exhibition contest against at NCAA Division II Southwest Baptist University. The Bearcats defeated the Owls, 97-71, on Monday.
- Klayton Kuschel leads the Owls in rebounds with a total of 62 which puts him at 25th in the nation and is averaging 7.75 rebounds a game. He is also leading in blocks with five on the season.
- Shannon James continues to be a spark for the Owls as he is in the top 35 in the nation in three categories. James is averaging 15.75 points a game, has a total of 27 assists and averages 3.38 assists per game, as well as having 15 steals on the season (29th in the nation)
- Alec Mulvihill is currently ranked 37th in 3-point field goals made with 19 and is ranked 25th in field goal percentage (0.514)
- In the Owls home opener on November 22nd, WWU came away with a 71-69 victory over Haskell Indian Nations.
- WWU ranks 15th in the nation in total steals as they have recorded 69 steals on the season.
 
ABOUT THE SPARTANS
- The Spartans enter the contest with an overall record of 4-2 and this contest marks their first AMC game of the season. MBU is one of two AMC men's basketball teams in the AMC, who have not played an AMC contest this season
- Missouri Baptist is coming off a 103-97 loss to William Penn on November 25th. This game was part of the Hampton Inn Classic hosted by Columbia College
- Luke Call leads the Spartans in points averaging 12.83 per game and is also leading the team in three-point field goals with 22 on the season
- David Gabrovsek leads the Spartans in rebounds with 38, 25 of those being defensive. He also has a total of 25 field goals and is shooting 53.2 percent from the floor on the season
- As a team, the Spartans are averaging 95.8 points per game and are allowing opponents to score 61.5 points per game. The 95.8 points per game the Spartans score per game is the second most points averaged by an AMC schools this season.
 
LAST YEARS MEETINGS
Last season the Owls and Spartans met three times during the 2015-16 season. William Woods won two of the three meetings last season, including the AMC Quarterfinals. WWU and MBU split the regular season meeting, each winning on the road.

WHATS NEXT
The Men's Basketball team hosts Harris-Stowe State University in AMC action on Sunday, December 4 at 3 p.m. before going on a road trip for their next three contests.
