BELLEVILLE, Ill. – The William Woods University Women's Soccer team was defeated by Lindenwood University-Belleville, 1-0, in American Midwest Conference Quarterfinals action on Friday night.
With the loss the Owls are eliminated from the AMC Postseason Tournament. The Owls were limited to three shots on the contest, including only one on goal.
Jaclyn Zilch had the lone shot on goal for the Owls.
Game Flow
The Lynx came out and got to shooting early and often in the contest as they had two shots within the first five minutes of the contest, but both shots went wide of goal. Lindenwood-Belleville got its first shot on goal with 33:18 left in the contest when Raven Loughridge shot went on goal but
Rebecca Sturgess made the save.
Lindenwood-Belleville continued to have shots on goal as Blanca Gomez looked to have a goal but her shot hit the crossbar. Less than a minute later, Alexis Brunner had a shot that the Owls saved.
The Owls got its first shot of the contest late in the first half.
Alex Langford had a shot attempt at the Lynx goal but the shot went wide. The Lynx had one more shot in the half, and the shot went wide. The AMC Quarterfinals would go into halftime scoreless.
Like the first half, the Lynx came out trying to score early as they again had two shots on goal in the first five minutes of the contest, however, the Owls defense kept the ball out of the back of the net and the game was still scoreless.
The shots continued to come in bunches for the Lynx, who had 19 shots in the contest compared to the Owls three. With just under 25 minutes left in the contest, the Lynx had a shot go wide and the game remained scoreless.
After two more shots went wide for Lindenwood-Belleville, they broke the scoreless tie. Coming on a corner-kick from the left side, Gomez beat Sturgess giving the Lynx a 1-0 lead over the Owls.
Trailing 1-0, the Owls offense looked to get into gear as they had two corner-kicks late in the first half but could not get anything started from them. With 5:38 left in the game, Zilch had the first shot on goal for the Owls but the shot was saved keeping the Lynx ahead, 1-0. Less than a minute later, the Owls
Shelby Scanlan had a shot but the shot went wide. Scanlan's shot was the final shot for the Owls in the contest.
WWU would end up falling to the Lindenwood-Belleville, 1-0.
