Brown Leads Women’s Basketball Past Missouri Baptist

FULTON, Mo. – William Woods University Women's Basketball Player Jasmine Brown scored a team-high 23 points en route to leading the Owls past Missouri Baptist University, 84-67, in American Midwest Conference action on Thursday evening at Anderson Arena.
 
Brown scored her 23 points on 9-of-10 shooting on the contest. Kelsey Scherder followed Brown with 13 points. Kaycee Gerald and Peyton Greenlee rounded out the double-figure scorers with 12 and 11 points respectfully. Gerald led the Owls with nine rebounds.

With the win for the Owls, Head Coach Dan Chapla picked up his 200th career win at William Woods University. He is just the second head coach in WWU Women's Basketball history to earn 200 wins at William Woods. 
 
The Owls return to action on Sunday, December 4th when they host Harris-Stowe State University at 1 p.m. at Anderson Arena.
 
Game Flow
The Owls got off to a fast start as they used a 13-4 start in the contest to build a nine-point lead over the first four minutes of the contest. A jumper by Brown in the paint put the Owls ahead, 13-4. After the Spartans scored two puts trimming the lead down to seven. The Owls grew its lead to 20 points, 13-0 run for a four minute. WWU held a 30-10 lead after the first quarter of action.
 
Missouri Baptist slowly started to chip away at the lead and a three-pointer by Shaylen Robinson trimmed the Owls lead down to 30-15. However, the Owls extended its lead back to 20 points, 37-17, on a jumper by Baily Rollins. After growing its lead back to 20 points, WWU grew its lead to 24 points as Kenda Vaughan hit a three-pointer to end the half and the Owls went into halftime leading 47-23.
 
The Owls lead grew to a game-high 27 points, 53-26, after a three-pointer by Greenlee with nine minutes to go in the contest. Missouri Baptist continued to chip away at the lead as they cut the lead to 19 points, 59-40, on a Robinson jumper. Nineteen would be as close as the Spartans would get in the quarter, but WWU stretched the lead back to 21, 63-42, after three quarters of action.
 
The Spartans continued to cut into the Owls lead and after a Kennedy Smith jumper put the Spartans down 17, 64-47. The Owls answered back growing its lead back to 20 plus points after a pair of free throws by Gerald and Greenlee. The Owls continued to play solid defense and never led the Spartans get closer than 17 points in the game. WWU would come away with a 84-67 victory over the Spartans.
