Women’s Basketball Wins Seventh Straight; Beat Park, 77-59

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University women's basketball team extended its winning streak to seven games on Saturday afternoon. The Owls defeated Park University, 77-59, in American Midwest Conference action.
 
Freshman Peyton Greenlee led the way for the Owls with 23 points on 10-of-12 shooting. Kaycee Gerald followed with 13 and Jasmine Brown scored 11 to round out the double-figure scorers. Kaycee Gerald led the Owls with nine rebounds. WWU shot 53.6 percent from the floor in the contest.
 
The Owls return to action on Tuesday, January 3rd when they host Lindenwood University-Belleville at Anderson Arena. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
 
Game Flow
The Owls scored the first five points of the contest on field goals by April Gebke and Kaycee Gerald and the Owls never looked back. WWU slowly grew the lead to seven points, 12-5, with 5:25 left in the first quarter. WWU continued to attack and drive to the basket and picking up fouls on the Pirates, which sent the Owls to the line. With just over two minutes left in the first quarter, a pair of free throws by Brown put the Owls ahead by 10, 19-9. The lead grew to as many as 14 in the first quarter but a three by Kianna Lane trimmed the Owls lead to 23-12 after one quarter of play.
 
Park cut the Owls lead down to seven points in the 23-16, after a Brook Vaughan jumper with 7:11 left in the quarter. However, the Owls went on a 12-2 run over the next four minutes of the quarter growing its lead to 17 points, 35-18. Peyton Greenlee capped up the run with a pair of two point jumpers. William Woods grew the lead to 21 points, 46-25, after a layup by Gebke to go to halftime.
 
Coming out of halftime, both teams came out and the offenses went cold as only four points, all scored by WWU, over the first five minutes of the third quarter. Greenlee hit a layup with 4:40 left in the quarter that sparked the Owls offense. After her layup, WWU grew its lead to 27 points, 58-31, on another bucket by Greenlee. Park closed out the quarter on a 8-2 run trimming the Owls lead to 21 points, 60-39.
 
Kenya Lindo hit a three-pointer to open the fourth quarter taking the Owls lead to 18 points, 60-42, before the Owls the Owls stretched it back to 21 points. A pair of free throws by Selena Dunn with 6:46 took the Owls lead to 19 points, but after the free throws, the Owls slowly extend its lead back to 24 points, 72-48, after a Bailey Rollins three-pointer and a layup by Kendra Vaughan. Park cut the Owls lead down to 16 late in the fourth quarter but it would be as close as the Pirates would get as the Owls continued to extend its lead and WWU came away with its seventh straight victory, 77-59, over Park.
