FULTON, Mo. – William Woods University men's basketball team returns back to Anderson Arena for an American Midwest Conference (AMC) showdown against Park University on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m.
The Owls (16-9; 12-5 AMC), are coming off an 88-51 victory over Saint Louis College of Pharmacy on Thursday, where the team shot 65 percent from the floor, a season-high.
DJ Johnson scored a career-high 30 points in the victory as he was 12-of-14 shooting from the floor.
On the season, the Owls are currently sitting in fourth seed of the AMC, averaging 82.5 points per game on the season, which is third best in the conference and 24th best in nation. WWU is third in the conference from beyond the arc, shooting 38.1 percent, while owning a field goal percentage of 46.3 on the season.
Kevin House leads the offensive attack for the Owls as he is averaging 15.1 points per game on the season. House is shooting 53.3 percent from the floor.
Deon Pettigrew follows averaging 14.4 points per game. Pettigrew leads the team averaging 6.2 rebounds per game.
Not only does House lead the Owls in points, he is also the leader in assists as he has 125 assists on the season and is averaging 5.95 per game, which is the seventh best in the nation. House also ranks in the top ten in three point field goal percentage as he is hitting 47.8 percent of his threes, which is eighth best.
Two other key offensive players for the Owls have been
DJ Johnson and
Austin Lowery, who have pushed their season averages up to 11.8 and 11.6 points per game, respectively.
Park is coming into the match-up with a 15-7 overall record and own a 13-4 AMC record on the year. The Pirates ended their two game losing streak on Thursday night when they defeated Missouri Baptist, 85-71.Xavielle Brown leads the Pirates has he is averaging 22.9 points per game. He scored a season-high 38 points on three separate times this season.
The last time these two teams matched up on January 2nd, Pettigrew scored 25 points and collected 11 rebounds but it was not enough as the Pirates came away with a three point, 82-79, victory over the Owls. Xavielle Brown scored 32 to lead Park.
