Owls Look For Third Straight Win Against Park

FULTON, Mo. – After coming off a 71-48 win over Saint Louis College of Pharmacy, the William Woods University women's basketball team will look to capture its third win in a row on Saturday, as the Owls host Park University. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m.

The Owls (17-7; 12-6 AMC), picked up another important American Midwest Conference (AMC) victory against the Pharmacy, as the team finished the night shooting 40 percent from the floor, 40 percent from the three-point line and went 7-of-19 from the free throw line.

Leading the way for WWU was freshman Bailey Rollins, as the Windsor, Missouri native, scored 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting. Following Rollins was Jess Schmidt and Kelsey Scherder with 12 points each. Schmidt was 5-of-7 shooting for the contest, while Scherder was perfect 4-for-4 on three pointers yesterday.

The Owls hit a season-high 12 three pointers in the victory on Thursday night. WWU dished out 23 assists against Pharmacy on 26 field goals.

After falling to Harris-Stowe State University on January 30, who is a game behind the Owls in the standings, William Woods has rebounded by winning back-to-back games.

On this two game winning-streak, the Owls have four players averaging double-figures. Bailey Rollins and Kennedy Volkart are leading the way as they are averaging 12.0 points per game. Senior Nia Lateju follows averaging 11.5 and Kailey Morris rounds out the double-figure scorers averaging 10.5 points per game.
The Owls are shooting 43.8 percent on the winning streak and are scoring 75 points per game while only allowing 55 points per game.

On the season, the Owls are posting 66.1 points, while hitting 39.4 percent of its shots from the floor and are outrebounding its opponents 1,065-904. WWU has the sixth most assists on the season in the NAIA.

Senior Nia Lateju paces the offense thus far, averaging 12.3 points per game on 43.2 percent shooting and is third on the team in rebounds (163). Volkart is right behind Lateju, scoring 10.5 points per game, while coming in second on the team in rebounds (174).

Junior duo of Kelsey Scherder and April Gebke are both scoring just under nine points a game (8.4 ppg) and (7.8 ppg), respectively. Senior Julia Wells continues to lead the team in rebounds with 177 on the year, while her 3.5 offensive rebounds per game, ranks her No. 14 in NAIA.

Park University, (8-12; 8-10 AMC), are coming off a 65-56 victory to Missouri Baptist University in its last outing, putting the Pirates tied for seventh in the AMC with Lindenwood-Belleville University.

Despite, WWU coming away with the 45-38 victory over Park in the team's first meeting this year, it was a hard fought game as both teams struggled shooting the ball as WWU shot 28.3 percent from the floor, while the Pirates shots 21.5 percent. Both teams combined to score 11 points in third quarter of the contest.

On the season, Latice Butler has been leading the Pirates as she is averaging 15.5 points per game and is the only Park player scoring in double-figures on the season. Butler, also leads the team collecting 9.5 rebounds per game, which is the sixth most in the NAIA. Butler is averaging 4.1 offensive rebounds per game, which is fourth in the country.
