HENDERSON, Tenn. – The William Woods University Men's Basketball team hit ten three pointers in the first half against No. 12 Freed-Hardeman University on Saturday but the Owls shooting cooled off in the second half and the Lions defeated the Owls, 94-84, on Saturday in American Midwest Conference action.
Game FlowFreed-Hardeman offense came out clicking in the first half, as they scored eight points in the first two minutes of the contest and led WWU, 8-2. The Owls chipped away at the lead as they went on a 12-0 run capped by a
Deon Pettigrew three pointer putting the Owls ahead 14-8.
The teams traded baskets over the next couple of possessions and a
Trey Mitchell three pointer tied the game at 19-19. After the game was tied, the Owls regained the lead and stretched the lead out to six, 30-24, after another Mitchell three pointer.
The Owls couldn't hold onto the lead as Freed-Hardeman continued to answer the Owls runs with runs of their own and the game went into halftime tied at 51-51.
Trey Mitchell led the Owls with 21 points in the first half has he was 5-of-5 from behind the arc.
William Woods and Freed-Hardeman continued to trade baskets in the second half and after a Pettigrew three pointer, the Owls were ahead 58-57. Like the first half, the Lions answered the Owls runs and bounced back by taking the lead by scoring the next six points and taking a 63-58 lead.
Once the Lions took the lead, they did not allow William Woods to lead again in the game.
Austin Lowery hit a three pointer with 10:13 left in the second half putting the Owls down one, 66-65, but this would be as close as the Owls would get the rest of the half.
Freed-Hardeman slowly stretched its lead out as a three pointer by Trevor Randolph put the Lions ahead by 11 points, 84-73. The Owls could not get the lead under double-digits for the remainder of the game and would fall by a score of 94-84.
