FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University Women's Basketball team got off to a slow start against Stephens College on Thursday night before pulling away for a 20 point victory, 70-50. With the win the Owls improve to 20-9 on the season.
Game FlowBoth offenses came out sluggish in the contest as both teams combined for four points during the first four minutes of the game.
Kennedy Volkart scored the first hoop for the Owls with six minutes left in the first quarter. After Volkart's hoop there was not anymore scoring for two minutes when
Bailey Rollins hit a three pointer.
The offenses started to pick it up late in the first quarter as they traded baskets ending the quarter and WWU led 12-7 after one.
William Woods offense came out scoring in the second quarter and with just under six and a half minutes to go in the half, WWU stretched its lead to 11 points, 20-9, after a
Nia Lateju jumper in the paint. WWU continued to streak the lead as they grew the lead to as many as 21 points in the first half. The Stars ended the half by scoring three of the last four points and William Woods went into halftime leading 36-17.
The Owls did not let Stephens within ten points the rest of the contest. In the third quarter the Stars and Owls traded baskets and after a jumper by Lateju the Owls led 53-34 entering the fourth quarter. The Owls grew its lead to 22 points, 61-39, after a
Marissa Webb jumper. The Owls came away with a 20 point victory over Stephens, 70-50.
