FULTON, Mo. – William Woods University Men's Basketball Team returns to action on Saturday February 27th when they host Columbia College in an American Midwest Conference (AMC) showdown. This is senior day for the Owls as they look to close out the regular season on a high note. Tomorrow's game against Columbia is presented by Cost Cutters.
The Owls (18-11, 14-7 AMC), are coming off a 94-84, loss to No. 12 Freed-Hardeman University on Saturday afternoon. The Owls shot 43 percent from the floor in the loss.
Trey Mitchell scored a team-high 25 points, 21 of those points came in the first half when he was 8-of-9 shooting including 5-of-5 from three point range. The Owls hit 14 three pointers in the contest, the second most hit in a single game this season.
Led by Mitchell, WWU stayed with Freed-Hardeman during the first half of the contest. The Owls found themselves down early and answered by a 12-0 run taking an early lead. The Owls continued to battle and after one of Mitchell's three pointers, led 30-24. Freed-Hardeman answered right back and after the first 20 minutes of action the game went tied, 51-51, into halftime. William Woods shooting cooled off in the second half and the Lions slowly pulled away and took the game, 94-84.
WWU is currently sitting in fourth place in the conference entering the final week of regular season action. On the season, the Owls are averaging 83.1 points per game, the third most points in the conference. William Woods is hitting 38.7 percent of their three pointers on the season, which is the second highest percentage in the AMC.
Kevin House leads the offensive attack for the Owls as he is averaging 14.6 points per game on the season. House is shooting 51 percent from the floor on the season. Not only does House lead the Owls in points, he is also the team leader in assists as he has 151 on the season.
Following House is
Deon Pettigrew who is averaging 13.9 points per game. Pettigrew alos is collected 6.1 rebounds per game.

DJ Johnson and
Austin Lowery round out the double figure scores for William Woods. Mitchell, who has led the Owls in scoring in the last three games, is averaging 11.7 points per game. Johnson is scoring 11.6 points per game while Lowery is scoring 11.5 points per game.
Columbia is coming into the match-up with a 24-5 overall record and own a 17-4 AMC record on the year. In the Cougars last contest on Thursday, February 25th, Columbia defeated Park, 108-98, for its second straight win. Nic Reynolds led the way for the Cougars with 28 points. Columbia had five players score in double figures in the contest and they shot 55 percent from the floor. On the season the Cougars are averaging 81.9 points per game.
The last time these two teams matched up was on January 16th, when Columbia defeated William Woods, 74-59. The Owls shot 34 percent from the game and were 4-of-17 shooting from behind the arc. William Woods struggled shooting from the free throw line as they were 11-of-23 (48%) in the loss.
Kevin House led the team with 19 points. Columbia, three point attack hit 10 three pointers in the contest and shot 36 percent from the floor in the win.
