Owls Split AMC Doubleheader With Park

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University softball team split its American Midwest Conference contest with Park University on Friday afternoon. The Pirates took game one, 5-1, before the Owls responded taking game two, 7-0.
 
The Owls return to action on Tuesday, March 29th when they play Vanguard University in Costa Mesa, Calif. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. CT.
 
Game One
Game Flow

The Owls and Pirates came out in a pitcher's dual as neither team could get anything going in the first five innings of the contest. However, the scoring started in the top of the sixth inning of the game. The Pirates were the first to score as Mallory Land singled to lead-off the inning. After a sac bunt moved Land to second base. Sarah Rothe followed with a single to left soring Land putting Park ahead 1-0. The Pirates added one more taking a 2-0 lead.
 
William Woods responded in the bottom of the sixth inning of the game. With one out, Sydnae Hatton doubled to left center. Ari Arnold drove in Hatton with two outs when she singled to left center. The run put the Owls down by one, 2-1. That was all the Owls would get as the next hitter struck out swinning.
 
Park added to its lead in the top of the seventh inning. The Pirates scored three more runs in the top of the inning extending its lead to 5-1 over the Owls.
 
WWU tried to get things going in the bottom of the seventh. With one out, Brailee Schulte singled, however, the Owls next two hitters were retired and the Pirates came away with a 5-1 win.

Game Two
Game Flow

The Owls came to life in the bottom of the first inning as they scored two runs on four hits in the inning. With one out, Campbell singled to right. She advanced to second on a ground out. With one outs and Campbell on second, Beth Begemann singled to center putting runners on the corner. Campbell came into score on a Britanee Willard's error. Schulte drove in Begemann with an RBI single to right center.
 
Allison Waskow kept the Pirates bats quiet during the second game of the doubleheader as she only allowed Park five hits for the contest. The Pirates did not collect more than one hit for the entire game.
 
Leading 2-0, the Owls added to its lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Amanda Bouchey singled too short to start the inning. After a sacrifice bunt and a ground out, Bouchey was on second base with two outs, Hatton singled home Bouchey putting the Owls ahead 3-0.
 
William Woods added another run in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Arnold on second base and one out, Schulte recorded a single to center field, moving Arnold to third base. Arnold came to score on a Alli Massey single extending the lead to 4-0.
 
WWU continued to add to its lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. A runner on first, Campbell doubled to right center scoring one and putting the Owls ahead, 5-0. Campbell came into score when Begemann hit a two run home run on a full count. She drove the ball over center field fence growing the Owl lead to 7-0.
 
The Pirates tried to get a seventh inning rally going of Waskow in the top of the seventh inning. After a leadoff single, the next two hitters grounded into a fielder's choice and the final hitter grounded out to second ending the game and the Owls came away with a 7-0 victory.
