Owls Baseball Downs Central Methodist, 10-5

FAYETTE, Mo. – The William Woods University Baseball team defeated Central Methodist University, 10-5, in a non-conference showdown on Tuesday afternoon.
 
Tanner Wetrich led the Owls at the plate as he went 3-for-5 for the contest. Teammates Alex St. Pierre, Ryan Phillips and Matt Priest drove in two runs each during the contest. Jesse Remington led the way for the Owls, as he tossed six innings and struck out six.
 
The Owls return to action on Friday, April 8th when they host Lindenwood University-Belleville in American Midwest Conference action. First-pitch is set at 4 p.m. at Owl Field.
 
Game Flow
After the a scoreless first, the Owls scored the first run of the game in the second inning. Patrick Dillion singled to center and moved to second when Konrad Kemper drew a walk. WWU scored its first run of the game when Matt Priest ground out scoring Dillion and the Owls led 1-0.
 
The Eagles answered back in the second inning when as they scored two runs on two hits in the contest. The key hit for Central Methodist came when Brennan Hurley singled to left scoring two. CMU extended its lead to 3-1 after Logan Bradley homered to left center on the first pitch of the at-bat.
 
Central Methodist continued to hold a 3-1 until the top sixth when the Owls offense came to life. William Woods scored six runs on five hits and took advantage of two errors of the Eagles. With two runners on, Jordan Dey singled to left scoring one and trimming the lead down to one, 3-2. An RBI single to right-center scored Phillips tying the game at 3-3.
 
After tying the game, the Owls offense continued to soar as Matt Priest reached on an Eagles error scoring one. Later in the inning, Alex St. Pierre singled to left scoring two runs and Priest came into score into another Eagles error. After the inning came to an end the Owls led, 7-3.
 
William Woods continued to add to its lead in the top of the eighth. With the bases loaded, Ryan Phillips doubled to deep right center, scoring two and growing the Owls lead to 10-3.
 
Taking a 10-3 lead to the bottom of the ninth inning, the Owls needed three outs to seal the victory. Dalton Entwistle struck out starting the ining. After back to back singles and a passed ball advanced the runners to second and third, Chance Sugg singled to center scoring two and trimming the Owls lead to 10-5. After the two runs scored, the Owls made a pitching change and Blake Novack came in and struck out the next two Eagles and the Owls won, 10-5.
