HENDERSON, Tenn. – The William Woods University baseball team used a walk-off homerun in the bottom of the tenth inning on Friday afternoon to defeat Lyon College, 5-4, to stay alive in the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Baseball Championship.

Trailing 4-3, in the bottom of the tenth with one out, senior
Jordan Dey came up to the plate. With a 1-1 count, Dey took the third pitch of the at-bat over the left field fence for a two run walk-off home run to give the Owls the victory.

With the victory the Owls remain alive in the AMC Baseball Championship. William Woods will return to action tonight at 8 p.m. against host Freed-Hardeman in an elimination game.

Game Flow
Both starting pitchers came out dealing as neither offense could get anything going in the contest until the top of the fourth inning. With one out,
Jacob Guilianelli ran into trouble for the Owls, as he allowed a hit and hit the next two batters to load the bases. Keegan Floyd came up to the plate and Guilianelli's struggles continued as he hit Floyd allowing the Scots to score the first run of the contest. However after that hit batter, Guilianelli got a double play to get out of the inning.

The Owls bats answered back in the bottom of the fifth inning. Dey led off with a single to left center and
Patrick Dillon followed with a walk.
Grant Garrett followed with a two run RBI single putting the Owls ahead 2-1.

William Woods extended its lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Nolan Aherin doubled to lead off the inning and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt. After a walk, Dey singled home Aherin putting the Owls ahead by two runs.

The lead did not last long for the Owls as Lyon answered back in the top of the seventh inning tying the game. The Scots took advantage of back to back errors by William woods putting two runners on. Kris Kohlstedt tied the game at 3-3 as he hit a two run double to left center.

The game remained tied until the top of the tenth inning when Dylan Wooten led off the tenth with a solo home run. That would be all the Scots would get came up to the plate.

Neal Aherin led off the inning with a single and
Ryan Phillips came up to the plate and grounded into a fielder choice. Next stepped up
Jordan Dey. Dey worked his at-bat to a 1-1 count and on the third pitch of the at-bat took it over the left field fence for a walk-off home run and the Owls defeated the Scots, 5-4.
