William Woods' lead did not last long as Columbia came back and scored the next seven points and the game was tied. The lead traded hands a few times but the Owls built its lead back to five points, 18-13, after a Jasmine Brown jumper in the paint. Ahead by four, 20-16, the Owls gave up a three-pointer to Raegan Wieser to end the first quarter and the Owls led the Cougars 20-19.

After a Columbia jumper, the Owls trimmed the lead down to 10, 55-45, after an old-fashion three-point play by Brown.
