FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University volleyball team took down Kansas Wesleyan University, 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-20), in non-conference action on Friday night at Anderson Arena.

Abby Ferguson led the Owls with 12 kills, while
Kate Doerhoff followed with 10 kills. WWU recorded seven blocks in the contest.

WWU returns to action on Monday, October 23rd when they host No. 12 Missouri Baptist University. The match is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.

Game Flow
The Owls would trail early in the first set early on as the Coyotes came out swinging and took the first two points. The Owls slowly cut the lead and eventually ran past the Coyotes and after a kill by
Brittney Engelbrecht, the Owls found themselves ahead, 7-5. The Coyotes would continue to pursue the Owls going point for point with kills by
Rayleen Rivera and
Kira Krebill, put the Owls ahead 17-16. The Owls would then take off with the lead after a kill by
Kate Doerhoff late in the set, 21-17. The Coyotes would squeeze two more points before the Owls offense would rally off kills by Engelbrecht, Wiley, and Doerhoff, and WWU took set one, 25-19.

The second set would be dominated by the Owls as they scored the first four points of the set with kills by Doerhoff and Krebill and a joint block to bring the score to 4-0 in favor of the Owls. The Coyotes would threaten, but the Owls continued to swing away as Wiley added another kill, putting WWU ahead 6-4. The set would then be a game of cat and mouse with the Coyotes always on the prowl. After the Coyotes cut the lead down to one, the Owls ran away with a four-point, 20-16, lead under the serve of
Kameryn Bellinger. The last five points from the Owls would come from a kill by Wiley, Rivera, and Doerhoff, as well as a joint block from Engelbrecht and Krebill. WWU took the second set, 25-21.

Set three would bring the fire out of the Coyotes as they were the ones who ran away with an early lead of three, 4-1. The Coyotes would continue to hold the lead as they stretched their lead to four-points, 6-2. The Owls slowly cut the lead and after a kill by Ferguson and another block by Ferguson and Engelbrecht, the Owls would be down 7-5. Both teams continued to rally off points until the Owls took the lead under the service of Engelbrecht, 12-10. The set then bounced back and forth until another Owl run would give them the lead.
Jessica Jensen would lead the way as her service would bring fourth three kills by Wiley, single kills by Ferguson and Doerhoff, and a block by Ferguson and Doerhoff, put the Owls ahead, 20-16. The Coyotes would threaten late in the set, adding four to their score, 22-20. The Owls would push their last three points across with the help of a kill by Ferguson,
Jaclyn Zahn and ended with a service ace by
Kayton Coffee. WWU took the third set, 25-20.
