Men’s Soccer Clinches A Share of the AMC Title

PARKVILLE, Mo. – For the first time in school history, the William Woods University men's soccer team clinched a share of the American Midwest Conference Regular Season Title. WWU defeated Park University, 5-2, to close out its 2017 regular season on Wednesday night.
 
WWU clinched the top seed and the first automatic berth into the NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship. This is the first time in school history the Owls men's soccer team has advanced to the National Championship.
 
The Owls clinched a share of the AMC Men's Soccer Regular Season Title. WWU will have to wait to see if they hold it outright or share with Columbia College. Columbia hosts Lyon College on Saturday. Game Flow
The Owls scored the first goal of the match on the second shot of the contest. Rodrigo Alves had a shot that was saved and 30 seconds later, Anthony Moscatello found Alves who beat Ian Carver putting the Owls ahead, 1-0.
 
WWU added to its lead 13 minutes after its first goal. Alves scored his second goal of the contest with 26:10 left in the half. Late in the first half, the Owls added its third goal of the contest. Darren Wilson was taking down in the box and was award a penalty kick. Wilson made the penalty kick extending the Owls lead to 3-0.
 
Park had one shot in the first half, which came with 38 second left in the half. Daniel Jackson shot went high and the Owls led 3-0 at halftime.
 
Parks offense came to live in the start of the second half. Within the first minute and five seconds, Pedro De Souza scored on an assist by Jackson, cutting the Owls lead down to two, 3-1. Three minutes later the Pirates added its second goal of the contest when Joao Moreira scored, making it 3-2.
 
The contest stayed 3-2 until 12:51 left in the contest. Wilson found Victor Faure who beat Carver extending the lead to two, 4-2. Just over a minute later, the Owls grew the lead back to three, when Wilson scored his second goal of the contest putting the Owls ahead, 5-2, which would be the final score.
