Men’s Basketball Falls to College of the Ozarks

POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. – The William Woods University men's basketball team was defeated by College of the Ozarks, 87-73, on Monday evening at Keeter Gym on the campus of the College of the Ozarks.
 
The Owls had a trio of players score in double-figures against the Bobcats. Darrien Dickey led the Owls with 18 points, while DaShaun Stark and Brian Enriquez followed with 17 and 14 points respectfully. WWU shot 47.4 percent from the floor in the loss.
 
William Woods returns to action on Saturday, November 18th when they travel to Parkville, Missouri to face Park University. This will be the Owls American Midwest Conference opener. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
 
Game Flow
WWU and College of the Ozarks traded lead early and often in the contest as a jumper by Brandon Vice put the Owls ahead, 9-8, with 16:31 to go in the first half. The next trip down the court for the Bobcats, they took the lead 10-9.
 
William Woods went on a 7-0 run taking a 16-10 lead that was capped off by a jumper in the paint by DaShaun Stark. WWU held a five-point lead, 18-13, but College of the Ozarks acme right back tying the game at 18-18 with 10:25 left in the half.
 
The Owls slowly extended its lead back to six, 24-18, but the Bobcats had an answer and came back tying the game. For the remainder of the half, both the Owls and Bobcats traded leads for the remainder of the half. Darrien Dickey put the Owls ahead 38-35 with 21 seconds remaining but Calvin Allen trimmed the lead to one, 38-37, heading into halftime.
 
Leading by one Brian Enriquez hit a three-pointer growing the Owls lead to four, 43-39, opening the second half of play. After a Bobcats field goal, the Owls Dickey hit a layup putting the Owls ahead again by four, 45-41. Another second half three by Enriquez put the Owls ahead by six, 50-44.
 
After the Owls held a six-point lead, the Bobcats answered with a 14-2 run taking a 58-52 lead over the Owls. Ethan Davidson capped the run with a bucket in the paint. Enriquez hit another three-pointer trimming the Bobcats lead down to three, 61-58, with 9:20 left in the contest.
 
College of the Ozarks answered with a 10-2 run over the next three minutes of action. After a free throw by Calvin Allen, the Owls trailed 71-60. The Owls continued to battle and after a pair of free throws by Dickey, the Owls trailed by eight, 78-70. This would be the last time the Owls had the lead in single figures and the Bobcats grew the lead to 14. WWU was defeated by College of the Ozarks, 87-73.
