Volleyball Defeats Lincoln Christian, 3-0, on Senior Day

FULTON, Mo. – William Woods University volleyball team defeated Lincoln Christian University, 3-0 (25-15, 25-7, 25-17) on Friday evening at Anderson Arena on Senior Day for the Owls.
 
The Owls honored its four seniors between the second and third match of the contest for their contributions to the Owls for their time here as an Owl.
 
Abby Ferguson led the Owls with 11 kills in the match, while Tory Wiley followed with seven kills. WWU had 10 blocks in the match and had eight service aces in the win.
 
WWU now waits to find out who they will play in the AMC Quarterfinals. Opponents and locations have not yet been determined stay tuned to wwuowls.com for more information.
 
Game Flow
The Owls took a fast lead in the first set, scoring the first three points, including a service ace be Jessica Jensen, 3-0. The Red Lions would answer back and take the lead, 7-4. Back to back kills from Abby Ferguson would cut the lead to one, 7-6. The Red Lions continued to keep their lead until the Owls broke into a nine-point lead, 20-11, eight of those being kills by Tori Wiley, Kate Doerhoff, Brittney Engelbrecht, and Kira Krebill. The Owls would add kills by Krebill and Ferguson to finish the set, 25-15.
 
The Owls would continue to carry their energy into the second set as they scored the first eight points in the set, which included three kills, three back to back blocks, and two service aces by Engelbrecht put the Owls ahead, 8-0. By the time the Red Lions earned five points, the Owls were seven points away from set point. Under the service of Kayton Coffee, the Owls would finish off set two with two service aces and a block from Megan Rogers and Kira Krebill, 25-7.
 
Set three would go back and forth until the Owls found themselves at a three-point lead, 6-3. A kill by Rayleen Rivera would start another rally from the Owls as Ferguson added a solo block and two kills, a service ace, and a kill by Wiley put the Owls ahead, 16-5. The Red Lions would add a kill going down 16-6. A service run by Engelbrecht consisted of an ace and a kill by Krebill put the Owls ahead 21-7. The Red Lions threatened late in the set as they added five points in a row, 21-12. The Owls came to set point after an ace and a kill by Bellinger, but the Red Lions would go on another late run, adding another five to their score, 24-17. The Owls were able to end it there as Sydney Bullock claimed the last kill of the set, 25-17.
