Brown Leads Women’s Basketball Past Missouri Baptist

FULTON, Mo. – Jasmine Brown scored a game-high 18 points as she led the William Woods University women's basketball team to a 73-64 victory over Missouri Baptist University on Thursday night at Anderson Arena.
 
Brown led the Owls with 18 and Bailey Rollins and Peyton Greenlee followed with 14 points each. Kaycee Gerald followed with 11 points rounding out the double-figure scorers. With the win, the Owls improved to 5-3 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
 
WWU returns to action on Saturday, December 2nd when they host Columbia College at Anderson Arena. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m.
 
Game Flow
William Woods came out scoring seven of the first nine points of the contest as Peyton Greenlee, Bailey Rollins and Hannah Bland all hit shots for the Owls putting them ahead 7-2 with 6:21 left in the first quarter. Missouri Baptist battled back and tied the game at 9-9 and took the lead at 11-9 after a shot by Chanel Brown. Both teams traded baskets for the rest of the first quarter and the game was tied at 16-16 after one quarter of play.
 
Both teams came out trading baskets to open the second quarter of play before the teams went cold. Missouri Baptist's Jordann Bruenton hit a jumper in the paint putting the Spartans ahead, 20-18, with 6:30 to go in the quarter. WWU slowly started heating up and after back to back buckets by Greenlee and Jasmine Brown the Owls led 27-24. WWU grew the lead to six, 32-26, after a Brown basket. WWU took a three-point lead, 32-29, into halftime.
 
Opening the third quarter, the Owls stretched its lead to 10 points, 41-31, after a jumper by Greenlee. William Woods looked as if it would continue to stretch the lead and had the lead to 11, 46-35, with 3:49 left in the quarter before the Spartans started battling back. WWU saw its lead shrink to six, 46-40, but the Owls closed the quarter scoring the final five points taking an 11-point lead, 51-40, to the fourth quarter.
 
After trading early baskets, the Owls grew the lead to 14, 59-45, after a free throw by Brown. It looked as if the Spartans were going to battle back as they trimmed the lead down to nine, but the Owls answered and stretched the lead back to 14, 66-52, after a jumper by Brown. Missouri Baptist continued to battle and with 37 second left in the contest, Shaylen Robinson hit a three putting the Spartans down five, 69-64. That would be as close as they would get as the Owls scored the final four points of the game and defeated the Spartans 73-64.
