FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University women's basketball team was defeated by College of the Ozarks, who are the No. 6 ranked team in the NAIA Division II, 74-54, on Wednesday night at Anderson Arena.
Peyton Greenlee led the Owls with 15 points on the contest, on 5-of-11 shooting. Kaycee Gerald followed with 13 points. WWU shot 26.7 percent from the floor in the loss.
WWU returns to action on Saturday, November 11 when they travel to Lamoni, Iowa to face Graceland University. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
Game Flow
Early in the contest, the Owls and Bobcats were trading baskets and a runner by Gerald in the paint put the Owls ahead, 6-5, with seven minutes to go in the first quarter. However, the Owls shooting went cold as they scored one point for the remainder of the first quarter and the Bobcats scored 15 points taking a 21-7 lead after the first quarter.
College of the Ozarks came out and extended its lead to 19 points, after an Abby Oliver jumper. After taking the 19-point lead, the Owls trimmed the lead down to 11 after a Peyton Greenlee jumper. The Bobcats came back and grew the lead to 22, 37-15, after a layup by Cassidy Johnson. WWU found itself down 20, 42-22, at halftime.
Over the first four and a half minutes in the second half, the Bobcats grew its lead to 30 points, 55-25, after a three by Johnson. The Owls continued to fight and battle as they found themselves down by as many as 35 in the third quarter. Over the final three minutes and 30 second of the quarter, WWU held the Bobcats scoreless and WWU trailed by 27, 62-35, after the third quarter.
WWU continued to battle and had the Bobcats lead down to 22 points, 64-42, after seven straight points by Tori Nesslage. WWU got the lead down to 19, 66-47, after a Greenlee three with 4:46 left in the fourth quarter. That would be as close as the Owls would get in the contest as they were defeated 74-54, by the Bobcats.
