Men’s Basketball Falls to Harris-Stowe, 84-74

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University men's basketball team was defeated by Harris-Stowe State University, 84-74, on Thursday evening in American Midwest Conference action. This was the Owls first game since December 16th.
 
WWU had four players score in double-figures led by 18 points by senior Darrien Dickey. Jason Walker followed with 14 points. DaShaun Stark and Brandon Vice rounded out the double-figure scorers with 13 and 11 points. WWU shot 45.7 percent from the floor in the contest.
 
WWU returns to action on Tuesday, January 2nd when they travel to Belleville, Illinois to face Lindenwood University – Belleville in AMC action. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
 
Game Flow
The Owls and Hornets came out trading baskets and points and a pair of free throws with 17:27 on the clock, put the Owls ahead 7-5. After the Owls took the lead the Hornets came back and tied the game at 10-10 after a Dwane Miner jumper.
 
The lead continued to trade hands and a pair of free throws put the Owls ahead, 14-12. Dickey followed by scoring the next six points for the Owls taking a 20-14 lead. Harris-Stowe continued to battle and trimmed the Owls lead down to one, 25-24, after a Deandre Clark three.
 
With the Owls ahead, 27-26, Harris-Stowe closed the first half on a 17-6 run taking a 10-point lead, 43-33, into halftime.
 
Over the first three minutes of the second half, the Hornets stretched the lead to 22, 56-34, as they went on a 13-1 run opening the half. Harris-Stowe got the lead to 23, 58-35, with 16:19 left in the contest.
 
William Woods continued to battle and a layup by Brandon Vice put the Owls down by 14, 64-50, with 11:23 left in the contest. WWU got the lead down to 12 points, 64-52, before the Hornets extended it back to 17 points.
 
Finding themselves down 17, the Owls continued to battle and a three pointer by Jason Walker put the Owls down 10, 69-59, with 6:31 left in the contest. Harris-Stowe did not let the Owls get any closer until the game was under a minute left. DaShaun Stark hit a pair of free throws putting the Owls down nine, 78-69, with 43 seconds remaining in the contest.
 
Nine points would be as close as the Owls would get as they were defeated by Harris-Stowe, 84-74.
