Baseball Earns Doubleheader Split With Lyon

Batesville, Ark. – After falling 2-1, in game one of the doubleheader, the William Woods University baseball team responded by throwing a two hitter in game two of the doubleheader against Lyon College on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Owls return to action on Tuesday, February, 28th when they travel to NCAA Division II University of Central Missouri. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
 
Game One
Game Flow

The Scots and Owls were locked into a pitchers dual early in the contest as neither team could get any offense going. Through four and a half innings, both teams combined for two hits in the contest.
 
Lyon broke the scoreless tie in bottom of the fifth inning. With two outs and a runner on first base, Reese Chovanec hit a two-run homerun putting the Scots ahead, 2-0. Lyon kept the offense going on the next two runners reached for the Scots but Feucht struck out Kyle West to end the inning.
 
William Woods cut the lead in half, in the top of the sixth. With one out, Ryan Phillips singled and Tyler Cunningham doubled scoring Phillips putting the Owls down 2-1. However, the Owls could not anything else going in their half of the inning.
 
Feucht made quick work of the Scots in the bottom of the sixth inning getting the Owls back to the plate. After an out, Konrad Kemper drew a walk. He advanced to second on a ground out but he was stranded on second base after Alex St. Pierre flew out to end the inning and the Owls dropped game one, 2-1.

Game Flow

William Woods offense came to life in the top of the first inning. Josh Nicol led off the contest with a single and Patrick Dillon followed with a walk. After a fielder's choice, the Owls had runners on the corners and Ryan Phillips collected an RBI single putting the Owls ahead, 1-0. Nolan Aherin singled later in the inning scoring another Owls run and the Owls led 2-0.
 
The Owls broke the contest open in the top of the second inning. WWU scored four runs on six hits and took advantage of four Scots errors in the inning. After two innings of play the Owls held a commanding 8-0 lead over the Scots.
 
William Woods grew the lead to 9-0 in the top of the third inning. Ryan Phillips hit an RBI double in the third and the game went to 10-0 in the fourth inning. In the fourth, Matt Priest scored on a Scots error and the Owls lead 10-0 after four innings of play.
 
Lyon could not get anything going offensively against the Owls pitching staff in the third game of the contest. WWU held the Lyons to two hits in the contest and did not issue a walk. Ryan Phillips led the Owls with five innings pitched and struck out six batters for Lyon.
 
After the fourth inning, the Owls did not score again in the contest and came away with a 10-0 victory over Lyon. The win for the Owls in game two, was the first win in the AMC.
