Baseball Splits With Park on Sunday; Owls Take Series

PARKVILLE, Mo. – The William Woods University baseball team split its American Midwest Conference (AMC) doubleheader with Park University on Sunday afternoon at Comfort Field. The Owls took game one, 14-0, before falling 7-1 in game two.

With the win on Thursday for the Owls, WWU came away with the series victory over Park.
 
William Woods returns to action on Tuesday, March, 28th when they host Morthland College at Owl Field. The Owls and Patriots will play a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
 
Game One
Game Flow

William Woods got the offense clicking early against the Pirates. With two outs and a runner on second base, Tyler Cunningham doubled to deep right center scoring one and putting the Owls ahead, 1-0.
 
Owls starter, Ryan Phillips kept the Owls bats quiet for much of the contest as he allowed a double to the first batter, Tim Schaaremann and then settled down getting a double play and a strikeout to end the first inning. The Pirates got a two-out rally going in the top of the second as they had back-to-back singles but they would get nothing else as Phillips struck out Connor Whitney for the third out of the inning.
 
William Woods offense came to life in the third inning when they put up five runs on six hits on Park. In the inning, Ryan Phillips got the scoring started with an RBI single putting the Owls ahead, 2-0. Tyler Cunningham followed with an RBI single extending the lead to 3-0. Glen DesBouillons, Tyler Bracht and Anthony Davison all collected an RBI hit in the inning and the Owls led 6-0 after two and half innings.
 
The Owls continued to add to its lead in the top of the fifth inning. In the frame, the Owls had two runners on base when Bracht doubled down the left field line, scoring one. After a walk loaded the bases, Trevor Garriott cleared the bases with a triple putting the Owls ahead, 10-0.
 
WWU added to its lead in the sixth and seventh inning of action. In the sixth inning the Owls scored one run on an DesBoullons RBI single. William Woods added three in the top of the seventh inning on a Phillips single, Ryan Hickman single and a RBI groundout by Connor Wood.
 
The Owls relievers, Brice Mueller and Ethan O'Keefe kept the Pirates bats quiet as they only allowed two runners on base in the sixth and seventh inning. Park did not score and the Owls came away with a 14-0 win in game of the doubleheader.

Game Flow

Park got its offense going in the bottom of the first inning against the Owls. After John Lozano Jr. was hit by a pitch put one on, he advanced to second on a stolen base and third on a ground out. With two outs, he was still on third and Rafael Torres-Castillo reached when the Owls dropped a fly ball that would have ended the inning. After one, Park led 1-0.
 
WWU looked as if the offense was coming to life in the top of the second inning. With two outs, Josh Nicol singled and Konrad Kemper was hit by a pitch putting two runners on. However, WWU could not get a run across and trailed 1-0.
 
After the first inning, WWU's starter, Ryan Furtney, settled down and did not allow the Pirates to get anything going until the bottom of the fourth inning. In the fourth inning, the Pirates scored four runs on four hits and took advantage of an Owl error and grew its lead to 5-0. Park extended its lead to 6-0 in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single by Torres-Castillo.
 
The Owls got its first run of game two in the top of the sixth inning. Tyler Cunningham singled and DesBoullions followed with a single of his own. Cunningham went to third on DesBoullions and he went to second on the throw. On a Kemper ground out, Cunningham scored putting WWU down, 6-1.
 
William Woods continued to battle and in the top of the seventh inning they looked as if they would cut into the Pirates lead. With one out, Alex St. Pierre singled. After a pop out, Ryan Phillips singled putting two on but the Owls could not get a run across.
 
Park added a run in the bottom of the eighth inning and heading to the ninth the Owls trailed 7-1. WWU could not get anything going in the ninth as they were retired in order and the Owls dropped game two, 7-1.
