FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University had two solid starts against the Spartans of Missouri Baptist University, however, the Owls could only split its doubleheader on Thursday afternoon. WWU picked up the game one victory, 4-2, before falling in game two, 5-3 (10 innings).
 
William Woods and the Spartans close out its three game set tomorrow with first pitch of the single nine inning game starting at 12 p.m. at Owls Field.  
 
Game One

In game one, the Spartans came right out of the gate scoring two runs in their first at bats when Aaron Collazo hits a leadoff single and then advanced to second with a stolen base. Culver Plant then hit a deep fly, advancing the runner. Drew Kitson hit a ground ball, scoring Collazo. Chad Ramsey singled to right-center scoring Austin Rieman and the Spartans would be up, 2-0.
 
It would not be until the bottom of the second that the Owls offense comes to life. 
Ryan Phillips reaches by a hit by pitch, and 
Tyler Cunningham singles, putting Phillips at third base. With runners on the corners, 
Matt Priest would reach on a walk and Cunningham advances to second and Phillips would score on a balk. 
Glen DesBouillons would double down the left field line and score Cunningham and Priest. DesBouillon would end up scoring as well, and Owls would lead 4-2.
 
After an hour and forty-minute rain delay, neither team's offenses could come to life as the pitching of Furtney and Lovelady shutout the offense. The Owls would hold the Spartans, taking the first game of the three game series, 4-2.

The Owls would score first in the bottom of the second inning when Cunningham hit a single and advance to second and then advance to third on a passed ball. 
Patrick Dillon hit a single down the left field line, scoring Cunningham. DesBouillons reached on a Spartan mishap, scoring Dillon and the Owls lead 2-0.
 
The Spartans would answer back during their next at bats scoring one run, 2-1. The Owls would add an insurance run in the fourth when Cunningham hit a leadoff single and 
Jalen Poindexter reached on a walk, putting runners on first and second. Dillon reached on a bunt hit, loading the bases for DesBouillons. Cunningham would score on a fielder's choice, extending the Owls lead to 3-1.
 
The Spartans would then add a run in the sixth, when Plant hit a leadoff double and Austin Rieman slapped a single, scoring Plant, trimming the Owls lead to 3-2. With five outs left to go, the Owls give up a walk, ultimately paying for it in the end of the inning, where the Spartans tie it up 3-3.
 
The Spartans would threaten in the top of the ninth, with a runner on third, but a big strikeout by 
Dalton Christian would give the Owls one more chance to finish it off. In the bottom of the ninth, 
Jalen Poindexter drew a walk, but the Spartans pulled off a double play as 
Neal Aherin, who was pinch running for Poindexter, got caught stealing and Dillon struck out taking the wind out of the sails of the Owls.
 
The Spartans threaten in the tenth when they load the bases, and Rieman hit a double, scoring two. The Owls would not be able to string anything together, and the Owls would drop game two, 5-3 to the Spartans.
