PARKVILLE, Mo. – The William Woods University softball team was swept Saturday afternoon in American Midwest Conference Softball action. The Pirates of Park University swept the Owls, 2-1 and 3-2 on the day.
William Woods returns to action on Tuesday, April 11 when they host No. 2 Columbia College in American Midwest Conference action. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.

The Owls came out in the first inning taking advantage of early Pirate mistakes. After reaching on an error
Dacrie Depping stole second base getting into scoring position.
Ari Arnold hit a single and advanced Depping to third. The next two outs would be routine, not allowing Depping and the Owls to score.
The Pirates answered back quickly when Scotlin Hurley reached on a walk and would score two batters later on a double by Mallory Land, putting the Pirates ahead 1-0.
The top of the third would look promising for the Owls when
Hannah Campbell hit a leadoff double. She would later be put out at the plate in a double play by the Pirates, keeping Park ahead, 1-0.
Allison Waskow would challenge the Pirates offense as they struggled to string hits together. Shelby Bendure would ultimately do the same to the Owls as the game was scoreless until the seventh inning.
Ali Massey would hit a leadoff single, that sparked the Owls offense.
Lindsay Van Tress would come in to run for Massey to give the Owls and on a
Brailee Schulte sacrifice bunt, Van Tress advanced to second base.
Hillary Hentges, who was pinch hitting for the Owls, would put the ball in play and on another Pirates mishap, Van Tress came into score tying the game at 1-1. That would be the only run the Owls would get in the contest.
With the game tied, 1-1, the Pirates came to bat in the bottom of the seventh inning. With two outs and runners on the corners, Mallory Land singled scoring the winning run for the Pirates and Park came away with a 2-1 victory over the Owls.

Game two for the Owls was quick as both pitchers dominated on the mound for the first three and a half innings. Park would score two runs in the bottom of the third while the Owls struggled with Scotlin Hurley on the mound. In the third inning of play the Pirates scored two runs one on wild pitch and another on a single by Brooke Kunkel.
The Pirates would score another run in the bottom of the fifth, making the score 3-0. Scotlin Hurley reached on a walk and she came into score on a two-out triple by Mallory Land.
It was not until the top of the seventh that a rally was started by an
Alli Massey walk.
Alexis Armontrout would run for Massey. The very next batter,
Amanda Bouchey, would then hit a two-run homerun, cutting the lead down to one run, 3-2. Hentges followed with a single to left center keeping the ralley going. The rally ended when the next Owl batter struck out to end the game and the Owls dropped game two, 3-2.
