Baseball Scores 16 In Victory Over Harris-Stowe

HENDERSON, Tenn. – The William Woods University baseball team scored a season-high 16 runs as they advanced in the winners bracket of the American Midwest Conference Championship with a 16-1 win over Harris-Stowe State University on Wednesday night. The Owls collected 18 hits in the contest.
 
With the win, the Owls advance to face eighth seed, Freed-Hardeman University in the second round. Freed-Hardeman defeated top seed, Missouri Baptist, 5-3, in the first game of the tournament. The Owls contest is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
 
Game Flow
After a one-two-three inning for the Owls, Harris-Stowe's first two batters were struck out by Owls starter Chase Feucht. With two outs, Zach Jones doubled to center field putting a runner on. He advanced to third when Dylan Yankle reached on an Owls error. With runners on the corners, Feucht got Leobardo Saldivar to ground out to end the inning.
 
The contest remained scoreless until the top of the third inning. With one out Nolan Aherin doubled to left center. He moved to third when Matt Priest singled. With runners on the corners, Ryan Phillips singled home one and Matt Priest advanced to third base. Priest came into score on a ground out making it 2-0. WWU got its third run when Konrad Kemper reached on an error putting the Owls ahead, 3-0.
 
Harris-Stowe answered back for one in the bottom of the third inning. With two runners on, Leobardo Saldivar doubled to deep right center, scoring one cutting the Owls lead down to two, 3-1.
 
The game remained 3-1 until the top of the sixth inning. Konrad Kemper was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Jansen Smith came up and took a 1-0 pitch over the right field fence for a two-run home run putting the Owls ahead, 5-1.
 
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Tony Montano singled putting one on for the Hornets. After the hit, Feucht retired the next three batters, including striking out Roger Amador to end the inning.
 
The Owls bats exploded in the top of the seventh inning, when they scored 11 runs on eight hits. The Owls big hit came by Jansen Smith when he hit a three-run home run in the frame. After the top of the seventh inning WWU led 16-1.
 
In the bottom of the inning, Feucht got Arsalaan Alvi to ground out to the pitchers' mound. He then got PJ Roberts to ground out to third and Zach Jones to ground out to the pitchers' mound to end the inning. WWU came away with a 16-1 mercy rule victory over Harris-Stowe.
