SALINA, Kan. – The William Woods University recorded its first sweep of the season on Monday night as the Owls swept Kansas Wesleyan University. The Owls won 25-17, 25-19, 25-23, taking the match to record its second win of the season.

Kira Krebill led the Owls with 11 kills. She was the lone Owl with double figure kills.
Brittney Engelbrecht dished out a match-high 33 assists in the match. The Owls hit .220 for the match.

The Owls return to action on Friday, September 1st when they travel to Bellevue, Nebraska to participate in the Bellevue University Tournament. The Owls will play No. 20 Belleville (Neb.) at 11 a.m. and No. 18 MidAmerica Nazarene at 5 p.m. on Friday.

Game Flow
William Woods got off to a slow start as they Coyotes raced out to a 3-0 lead.
Kira Krebill would stop the threat and cut the lead to two, 3-1, after her first kill of the match. It would not be until a service run by
Kameryn Bellinger that would give the Owls the lead. With Bellinger serving the Owls scored five points. The Coyotes threatened, but another service run by
Kayton Coffee and kills by
Tory Wiley and Krebill would give the Owls what they needed to keep their lead at three, 12-9. The Owls would continue to hold the lead with kills from Krebill,
Kate Doerhoff, and
Rayleen Rivera, stretching its lead to six, 18-12. The Owls would continue to keep the Coyotes at bay when they had another three-point run, taking a seven-point lead, 21-14. The Coyotes would score three more points before the Owls would run away with the win, 25-17.
The second set would then go point for point as both teams fought for the lead. The Owls took the lead after a four-point service run by
Jessica Jensen. During the run, the Owls got kills from Wiley and Krebill taking a three-point lead, 9-6. The Coyotes would cut the lead down to one point, but another kill from Wiley and a service run from
Melanie Kala would give the Owls a four-point lead, 14-10. A kill by
Abby Ferguson would stop a KWU run. Engelbrecht would add a kill of her own growing the Owls lead to five, 19-14. The Owls would continue to push as they took set two, 25-19, after a bad set by Taylor Dodge.
The Coyotes would take the lead in the third set, but the Owls would slowly chip away and an Coyote attack error tied the set at 5-5. The Owls then took the lead capitalizing on Coyotes mistakes and adding another kill from Ferguson, taking a one-point lead, 7-6. The Coyotes would then run away with a four-point lead until a kill by Ferguson would get the Owls the side out they needed. The Owls would even the score out with a service run by Englebrecht after taking a one-point lead, 14-13, KWU slowly built its lead to 20-17. WWU continued to battle but found themselves down 23-21. The Owls fought back as they scored the final four points on the match and a kill by Krebill gave the Owls the set and match. WWU took set three, 25-23, to earn its first sweep of the season.
