STERLING, Kan. – The William Woods University women's soccer team came away with its second straight victory on Saturday afternoon. The Owls came away with a 3-0 victory over Sterling College.
The 3-0 shutout was the second straight shutout for the Owls. Three different Owls scored a goal in the contest.
The Owls return to action on Wednesday, September 6th when they open its home schedule at Firley Field. The Owls will host Culver-Stockton College. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
Game Flow
Both offense came out looking to score early in the first half of the contest. WWU had three shots, two on goal, in the first ten minutes of the match, but could not get any past Hannah French. Once it was Sterlings turn they fired its shots wide.
Later in the first half,
Shelby Scanlan and
Elyssa Cappaert had two more shots on goal, within eight seconds of each other and again French made the saves keeping the game scoreless. WWU had one more shot in the first half as
Colleen Bayer had a shot that French saved. WWU and Sterling would go into halftime scoreless.
WWU scored its first goal four minutes into the second half. Scanlan found the back of the net to get the scoring started for the Owls. The Owls kept the pressure on the Warriors defense but could not get another goal as the Owls shots were going high or wide.
With 13:51 left in the contest, the Owls added to its lead when
Madysen Hahn scored the Owls second goal of the contest. Four minutes later,
Aurora Henriksen scored on a penalty kick putting the Owls ahead 3-0.
Sterling had a shot on goal with three minutes to go in the contest when Lauren Weiland put a shot on
Rebecca Sturgess but Sturgess made the save. WWU came away with a 3-0 victory.
