Women’s Basketball Pulls Away From Pharmacy In Second Half

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – After leading by three at halftime, the William Woods University women's basketball team pulled away from St. Louis College of Pharmacy in the second half. WWU came away with an 82-69 victory over the Eutectics in American Midwest Conference.
 
The Owls were led by sophomore Kaycee Gerald who scored 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting. Senior Jasmine Brown followed with 19 points rounding out the double-figure scorers for the Owls. Gerald led the Owls with 11 rebounds. WWU shot 47 percent from the floor in the contest.
 
The Owls return to action on Saturday, January 13 when they host Hannibal-LaGrange University in American Midwest Conference action. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
 
Game Flow
WWU scored the first basket of the game a little over a minute into the contest. WWU grew the lead to 6-2 before the Eutectics scored four straight points tying the game at 6-6. After the game was tied, WWU scored the next eight points, capped by a three pointer by Lexy Ganaway. A three-point play by Tori Nesslage put the Owls up 10, 20-10, with 30 seconds remaining in the quarter. Morgan rose scored the final points of the quarter for Pharmacy and the Owls led 20-12 after one quarter of play.
 
WWU slowly grew the lead to 13, 31-18, after a jumper in the paint by Peyton Greenlee. The Owls stretched the lead to 33-18 after a McKayla Callahan jumper, but the Eutectics started coming back and trimmed the Owls lead down to eight, 35-27, with 3:22 left in the contest. The Owls offense started cooling off late in the second quarter as they were held to three points over the final five minutes. St. Louis Pharmacy continued to battle and a pair of free throws by Allison Dewald cut the Owls lead down to three, 38-35. WWU took that three-point lead into halftime.
 
WWU came out in the third quarter and grew its lead to seven points, 42-37, after a Jasmine Brown jumper in the paint. St. Louis Pharmacy got the lead back down to three, 42-39, before the Owls went on a 14-2 run growing its lead to 13 points, 54-41. WWU's run was capped by a basket by Brown, which came off a Eutectics turnover. The Owls continued to grow its lead and stretched the lead to 60-43, after a Nesslage free throw. WWU led 63-48, after three quarters of play.
 
Over the first three minutes of the fourth quarter, the Owls held the Eutectics scoreless as they grew its lead to 19 points. During the run Kaycee Gerald had three points and assisted on another. Pharmacy continued to battle and each time they cut into the Owls lead, the Owls answered back and after a jumper by Gerald in the paint the Owls led by 18, 74-56. William Woods grew the lead back to 19 points, but the Eutectics continued to battle and got the Owls lead down to 14 points, 80-66, with 27 seconds left in the game. WWU came away with an 82-69 victory over St. Louis College of Pharmacy.
