OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The William Woods University baseball team was looking to close out its opening series with a three-game sweep of Mid-America Christian University. However, the Owls fell short as they were defeated by the Evangels, 15-6, in the series finale.

Tyler Cunningham drove home a team high two runs in the contest.

WWU returns to action on Friday, Feb. 2nd when they travel to Blue Mountain, Miss. to face Blue Mountain College in a four-game set. WWU will play a doubleheader Saturday and Sunday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday. Â

Game Flow
In the third game in the series, the Owls came right out scoring two.
Brian Granton and
Marquise Doherty reached on walks, and advanced on an Evangel wild pitchoff attempted.
Glen DesBouillons came up and hit a sacrifice fly to score both Granton and Doherty came into score on a bad throw back to the pitcher making it a, 2-0, Owls lead.

The Evangels answered back with a single by Diego Pichardo to start the offense. Luis Sanchez singled up the middle, scoring Pichardo, making it 2-1, Owls. It would not be until the bottom of the third before either team would score, in favor of Mid-America Christian. Sanchez came up big again for the Evangels scoring two off a double putting the Owls down, 3-2.

WWU tied it up in the fourth when Granton singled up the middle and Doherty hit an RBI triple making it a 3-3.

Mid-America Christian would once again take the lead in the bottom of the fifth when Pichardo hit the first long ball of the inning to spark the Evangel offense. Antonio Dorado would follow with a two-run homerun putting the Owls ahead by three, 6-3.

The Owls would answer back in their next at-bat.
Patrick Dillon hit a single to start off the inning and Granton would reach on a walk. With runners on first and second,
Tyler Cunningham hit a double to left-center, scoring both Dillon and Granton and putting the Owls down one, 6-5. DesBouillons reached on an error, aiding Cunningham to cross the plate tying the game at 6-6.

The Evangels would bring havoc with them in the bottom of the sixth when they strung hits together to score five, taking a comfortable lead at 11-6. The Evangels would score two more in their next at bat, 13-6. The Owls were not able to string hits together in their next two chances, and lost the third game, 16-5, to the Evangels.
