COLUMBIA, Mo. – The William Woods University women's basketball team saw its six-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday afternoon when they were defeated by No. 11 Columbia College, 88-57.
Jasmine Brown led the Owls with 20 points. She was the only Owl to score in double-figures for the contest. WWU
Kaycee Gerald followed with nine rebounds. WWU shot 33.9 percent from the field. Columbia College shot 51.6 percent from the contest.
WWU returns to action on Thursday, Feb. 1st when they host Williams Baptist College. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
Game Flow
In the first quarter of the contest the Owls and Cougars came out trading baskets and after a three by play by
Jasmine Brown the Owls head a 6-5 lead with 7:40 left in the quarter. The lead continued to go back and forth and after a layup by
Kaycee Gerald the Owls regained the lead at 14-12. WWU only scored three more points in the quarter and trailed after one, 20-17.
The Owls came back and tied the game at 23-23 after a basket by
Katharyn Nolan with 8:26 left in the second quarter. WWU than built a lead of four, 27-23, after a basket by
Lexy Ganaway and Brown. Again, the Owls and Cougars traded baskets before the Owls slowly grew its lead late in the second quarter. Columbia grew its lead to eight, 45-37, heading into halftime.
William Woods came out of halftime shooting the ball cold as they were held scoreless for the first three minutes of the quarter. Once the Owls got onto the scoreboard they found themselves down 14, 52-38. The Cougars continued to add to its lead and Columbia led 61-42, with 4:50 left in the quarter. WWU scored five more points in the quarter and trailed 73-47 after three quarters of play.
The Owls and Cougars came out struggling to score in the fourth quarter as neither team scored for the first three and a half minutes of the quarter. Brown scored the first bucket for the Owls with 4:46 left in the quarter. After the basket the Owls trailed by 27, 76-49. The Owls could not come back in the contest and would fall to No. 11 Columbia, 88-57.
