FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University volleyball team continued its winning ways on Friday evening as they swept Lindenwood University – Belleville, 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-16) for its 12th straight win of the season.
For the match, the Owls had an attack percentage of .253 for the match. WWU had nine blocks and four service aces in the match.
Tory Wiley led the Owls with nine kills in the match.
Remie Johnson led the Owls with 15 assists and
Jessica Jensen led the Owls with 11 digs.
The Owls return to action on Tuesday, October 9th when they host No. 3 Columbia College at Anderson Arena. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
Game Flow
WWU and Lindenwood-Belleville were locked in a close first set as after a Lynx attack error, the Owls tied the Lynx at 6-6. After the Lynx took a one-point lead, 7-6, the Owls scored the next six points capped by two blocks by
Hannah Kuehl and
Remie Johnson. The Owls grew the lead to seven, 17-10 after a
Kate Doerhoff kill. The lead grew to nine, 22-13, after a
Rayleen Rivera kill. The Owls did not let the Lynx back int eh set and took the first set, 25-14.
The second set stayed closed and with the game tied at 3-3, after two straight attack errors the Owls trailed 5-3. WWU scored four straight capped out by a
Jaclyn Zahn and Johnson block. The game would stay close and it was tied at 8-8. WWU led the Owls 13-12 before they slowly pulling away and a block by Johnson and
Kira Krebill put the Owls ahead 16-12. The Lynx came back and trimmed the lead to one, 16-15, before the Owls scored nine straight to close the set and take the second set, 25-15.
The Owls came out fast in the third set and after a Wiley kill the Owls lead 4-2. The Lynx came back and tied the game at 5-5 and took a 7-6 lead over the Owls. WWU rallied off the next four of the five points capped by a Kuehl kill putting the Owls ahead 10-8. WWU continued to grow the lead and after a Lynx attack error, WWU led 17-11. WWU did not let the Lynx back in the set and another attack error by the Lynx gave the Owls the set, 25-16 and the match.
